For those that are planning a trip to Amsterdam, I would encourage you to stay at the B&B Barangay! It is in a great location- very convienent from the train station and 1 block from great restaurants to begin your people watching and carefree experience. The room and bathroom at the Barangay was very clean and the little courtyard made our early mornings very enjoyable- not to mention the great breakfast they provided each morning during our stay. There were no pressures from the staff about coming and going, and Wimo made the checkout process nice and smooth! Not if, but when I come back, this is the place where I plan to stay!

This is not your typical B&B! If you want cheesy flowery wallpaper and carpet and dated decor then do not stay here. BUT if you want to stay somewhere that makes you forget about the outside world then this is your place!

The breakfast in bed service is a very nice treat and the scrambled egg concoction was YUUUMMMMMMMY! We stayed in the Blue Room which has access to a lovely private terrace. The bed and pillows and duvet were extremely comfortable and the room and private bathroom were kept very clean! I loved it here, in fact it was the best part of our trip.

The hosts are truely hosts and cannot help enough. The nice sit down chat when you first arrive is most helpful, pointing out things you should visit, good restaurants etc.

Overall it was excellent and we will definintely be telling friends about it!

  • Liked — Original decor, breakfast in bed, supplied umbrellas
  • Disliked — Didn't see enought of the resident cats!
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask for the scrambled eggs!

We just spent the weekend visiting with Godwin and Wimmo at Baranjay. They went out of their way to make our stay absolutely amazing! The room was perfect: clean, spacious, cozy, and private. The cruise on Crystel's boat that Godwin booked for us was unbelievable; You must book this trip instead of one of the large impersonal and overpriced canal boats. The location is just a few minutes from Central station in a wonderful "local" neighborhood with great restaurants, bars, markets, and coffee shops!
All in all, this was one of the best weekends we've ever had, thanks to the good fortune of booking our stay at Baranjay!

Thanks again Godwin and Wimmo for your warm hospitality and great advice!

Hope to see you again~

  • Liked — Godwin's ability to perfectly manage our entire weekend schedule; offer tips, book museum tickets, make reservations, etc... Service that hotels would never provide!
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Book a private canal cruise with Crystel through the B&B

My friend and I stayed at Barangay for 4 nights in early August and loved every bit of it. Our room (the tropical room) was adorable, with great decorative touches that we kept pointing out to each other. The location was superb, close to the sites, close to Central Station, and just a block away from some of the best restaurants we went to, yet the street itself is very quiet and residential.
The breakfasts were always wonderful, and we were adopted by Flip the cat, who came to visit us each morning. Wimmo and Godwin, the hosts, however, truly made our stay great - they were so incredibly friendly and helpful and all-around cool people.
Staying at the Barangay really felt like staying at a good friend's house, only with breakfast served in bed!!
thank you thank you!!

The B&B is in a pretty rowhouse near the central train station. The house was very clean, and we very much liked the decor and the cats. Unfortunately, the owners were away, and the young people in charge were not up to the job. Breakfasts were served in the room and were quite good, but we were not served at all one day because one staff member forgot to tell the other when we wanted it. Our room was pretty but unusual--an L-shape that was not very convenient, with our "private" bath down the hallway. Overall, it is a very nice place, but our experience was only OK.
