This was our second visit to Barangay. Last time we were in one of the patio rooms, complete with the very wonderful breakfast in bed. When we came to book this time, the patio rooms were already booked (as we should have expected), and we ended up in Mems studio just round the corner. It was a surprise and a delight. Although it didn't have the wonderful eclectic tropical feel of Barangay's own rooms, it was very stylish and comfortable, with absolutely everything we needed. The bathroom is beautiful and sumptuous - a huge bath and separate big shower. Being on the ground floor meant we didn't have to drag cases up and down stairs, although it did mean that the studio opens straight onto the street, and with the blinds down for privacy it could feel a little confined.

The studio is in a very quiet street, just around the corner from Barangay itself, but still close to everything. The location is just one of the excellent things about Barangay. It is a short walk from Central Station, an easy stroll to most of the best parts of the city, and close to the tram lines for everything else. There are lots of good places to eat nearby, and a supermarket just down the street for when you want to do your own thing.

The absolute best bit of Barangay is the people. We met Wimmo and Godwin for the first time last year and were overwhelmed by their hospitality, and all their help to make our visit to Amsterdam special. This time it was great to see them again, and also to meet Ron, who works with them now. Ron gave us a wonderfully warm welcome, reoriented us to the city, and got us settled in to our apartment.

Through Wimmo and God we organised a boat trip around the canals with their friend Chrystal, who runs private trips on her boat. It was great. We've done the standard tourist boat rides before, but they're always frustrating - so crowded and somehow so limited. This time we travelled in comfort, drinks in hand, with our own private guide who could take us wherever we wanted, and answer all our questions. Her boat is small enough to get into the smaller canals and backwaters. It was very reasonably priced too - extremely good value for money.

We will be back (again).

  • Liked — Excellent location, clean, comfortable, lovely people
  • Disliked — You're lucky to find a vacancy at short notice! - but well worth asking

Great rooms in a great location easy walking distance from the Amsterdam Central Station. We were welcomed by Ron who spent a good deal of time drawing maps and telling us about the attractions. We were early and stored our luggage while we took in Amsterdam.
The rooms are roomy, exquisitely decorated and immaculate. We stayed in both of the upstairs rooms and shared a bath with the occupants of the other room. This was never a problem as there was an extra bath available on another level. A word to the wise, however, if you have big and or heavy luggage take a day bag and store the luggage at the train station or airport. The upper rooms are at the top of three narrow and windy flights of stairs. If you don't want to check your luggage be sure to book a patio room.
The breakfast room is more than well stocked with modern appliances and lots of food in the fridge. It is stocked the night before so you can have your breakfast whenever you like.
When we returned from touring on the first day we met the other owners Godwin and Mimmo who were delightful, friendly and helpful hosts.
We stayed on two separate nights, one at the beginning and the other at the end of a bike and barge tour we did from Bruges to Amsterdam. We would return in a moment.

We were travelling with another couple and booked the two downstairs rooms. Both us and our freinds were very impressed with the rooms and the friendly welcome we got at the Barangay. Even though we have been to Amsterdam before the map & advice that we got when we arrived was very useful.
Whether you are a first time traveller to The "Dam" or not you will find The Barangay an ideal retreat as it is easy to find (only a couple of minutes walk from Central Station) and a short stroll Dam Square & the rest of Amsterdam's delights.
The rooms were lovely and clean as were our ajoining bathrooms - there were lots of nice little touches to make us feel welcome.
Breakfast in bed is lovely and arrives at a sensible time :)
The cats are adorable!
We are looking forward to going back there and would reccomend it to anyone.

  • Liked — The welcome & the rooms
  • Disliked — The stairs down to rooms were a bit steep - but then they are like that in Amsterdam!

We had just a couple of nights in Amsterdam, and wanted an apartment style accomodation. This studio, managed by the Barangay B&B just around the corner is a delightful ground floor pied-a-terre, just a short walk from the Central Station. It's in a quiet historic street, and has been very stylishly and comfortably equipped and decorated.
It is spacious, with a functional kitchenette, huge skylit bathroom, sitting area and comfortable bed.
On arrival, you check in with the very friendly and helpful staff at Barangay, who greeted us with a very welcome beer, and an excellent rundown of what was where in Amsterdam, before taking us to the studio.
We found it perfect for what we wanted - a great base to come and go from, with great choice of restaurants nearby, and somewhere to prepare breakfast and snacks.
It's not cheap at 149 euros a night(we paid a premium because our booking was only two nights) but it was better for us than most hotels we have stayed in, so if you like self-contained accomodation, but with the advantage of nearby assistance if needed, I would highly recommend this.

This was one of the best B & B's we stayed in and made for a wonderful trip to Amsterdam. The location is fantastic and the directions provided by the staff at the B & B are very helpful. It is only a 3-4 minute walk from the train station and trains are very frequent from Schipol Airport.

Upon our arrival, the staff invited us in and sat us down with a map and provided information on the sites, what to do etc and which parts of Amsterdam to visit. They even offered us a drink after our journey.

The room itself was the 'Tropical Room' which is downstairs in the adjoining building. As the only windown is a skylight, there was a little window with a 'spring display' and a light to make guests feel they are in the daytime. This is a very quaint and unique touch to make the stay more homely.

The room itself was large with a four poster bed, TV, the usual coffee and tea amenities and a large bathroom. It was very clean and presentable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

In regards to the location, it is perfect, located away from the busy tourist area / red light district and near the lovely culural part of Amsterdam. However, if guests do want to visit those areas (as we did), they are only a 5-10 minute walk. Closer by, is a street full of cafes and restaurants and the canals in the Jordaan part of Amsterdam which are much more quieter than the tourist area but definitely the nicest part of the City.

We would definitely stay again and recommend to friends visiting Amsterdam in the future.
