“My favorite B&B anywhere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

We have stayed here twice in the last 2 years. Each time was a week. Wimmo and Godwin run a tight ship. Breakfast is decent. Location is perfect with lots of dining close by and walk to Anne Frank House as well as Train Station.

When I came across the reviews of Barangay and noticed how many 'excellent' and how few 'poor' reviews this place has, I knew I had finally found where to stay!
This was our first time in Amsterdam and I took my boyfriend here for his birthday (birthday gift); I told Wimmo and Godwin that it was a special occasion and they were so lovely and offered to buy a bottle of sparkly on my behalf so we could celebrate on our arrival. This was a lovely surprise for my partner and the guys specifically bought what I asked for (you do not get this king of special service everywhere!!).
The place itself is so lovely and cosy; it's very nicely decorated and we certainly loved our room which was huge! (Wimmo told us that hey had reserved the biggest room for us as it was a special occasion..). The room we had is right opposite the kitchen and the bathroom is next to it, so there is no ensuite but there is a cute sink hidden in the wardrobe which we found handy as well as cute. This is the only room on that floor, so we really did have the bathroom all to ourselves.

The free WIFI was quite handy too (not many places offer that) as we could do our check in on-line prior to departure.

Breakfast was included in the price, which again I found quite a rare offering in other Amsterdam accommodations (unless of course you are prepared to pay extra). AND what a breakfast!! the fridge was full of goodies and so was the lovely decorated table. The coffee was delish and so was the variety of choice we had.

Prior to departing from UK I bought a couple of Amsterdam's map as I wanted to make sure we wouldn't miss out on sightseeing etc. What a waste of time! On the day of our arrival Wimmo welcomed us with a lovely refreshing drink, sat us on his sofa and highlighted all of the important places and interesting things going on (i.e. Markets) around us, which we never would have known about had he not told us. We were able to see the lovely places known to locals rather than the usual touristy street that are pretty much the same everywhere. The locations as many other reviews say, is perfect, only a few minutes walk from the train station to which you arrive from the airport in 15/20 minutes for as little as 7 euros. We love walking and did not buy any other tickets as we went everywhere on foot! We did jump on the tram only once but the tickets guy told us that he had run out of tickets and we could just sit down, so we basically had a free ride.. they are obviously very laid back about it.. :o) Many people suggest the I Amsterdam travelling card but I'm so glad we didn't buy it as it would just have been a waste of money.

Anyhow, we had a wonderful stay at Barangay, thanks to the lovely Wimmo and Goodwin! Should we ever go back to Amsterdam we would certainly return here. We will recommend Barangay to all of our friends and family!

Room Tip: Stay in the room opposite the kitchen as everything is so handy. There is a PC right outside it as w...

Better late than never indeed. This answer has been 2 years in the making... he hehhe.
Anyway, we are very humbled by your wonderful review. Those things keep us going and making all our efforts worth it.

As mentioned by you, we are very proud of our openess and our service of course.

For your future stay with us ( Anniversaries to celebrate ), we would like to inform you that all upper rooms has now an ENSUITE PRIVATE BATHROOMS. Our kitchen has also been renovated and is now at least 2.5x bigger. More comfort to our guests but still as cozy as before based on our guests new reviews. Very spacious for everyone to enjoy preparing their own breakfasts.

Windows has also been double glazed without taking our the old historic heritage windows. We just put 2nd set of double glazed windows and now the street noise a thing of the past indeed.

We look forward to welcoming you again in the future and a million appreciation for recommending us highly. Tropical regards, W&G, Eds, Billy & Bossy

A great B&B - excellent location for all the city centre attractions, but with the added advantage of being in a quiet area - very friendly and welcoming owners and staff - nothing was too much trouble - my wife and I would recommend the Barangay to anyone seeking a get away from it all, relaxing break in Amsterdam.

Just returned from my third stay at Barangay - the only place to stay in Amsterdam .... This place is a mere 3 minutes walk from Centraal Station, why look further; if you get lost you can always find your way back! It is situated on the edge of a wonderful 'village' area with some really good restaurants, bars and shops but within a short stroll of all the 'action' - everything covered. The accommodation at Barangay is excellent, both the tropical rooms and the self catering accommodation. All needs are catered for - coffee and tea, fridge, shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer, television and really comfortable beds. We had a wonderful weekend. It was my friends first stay at Barangay and I am quite confident it will not be her last ......

My partner and I stayed at the Barangay B&B for three nights in September 2011. I am very happy we made this choice. The place is beautiful and well looked after. Our host during our stay was Wimmo, who was particularly helpful with advice on how best to enjoy Amsterdam. The room was very spacious and comfortable, as was the bathroom. The breakfast spread was delightful. The location is ideal: only three minutes from Centraal Station, but away from the crowds. Right at the top of the Jordaan quarter – well worth spending hours walking around it. When we finally get to revisit Europe, Amsterdam and Barangay B&B will be a definte.

Where do we start ???
My partner & I spent 2 nights here at the end of January.
Cannot rate this B&B high enough - everything about it was perfect !
Firstly, it is a 5 minute walk from Centraal Station but is situated in a quieter part which makes it ideal - 5 minutes walk from everything you'd want to see/do but not right in the middle of it so sleep comes easy (helped by very comfy bed too) !
We were met by Ed on arrival who gave us a warm drink and had a blether. After knowing what kind of places we wanted to do/see, he gave us a map and circled different places for us including 2 markets - a Saturday one & a flea market - a must - great !!!
Then to our room (one of 2 patio rooms) - beautifully quirky & extremely welcoming - felt at home immediately ! Doors led us to a private patio where smoking was permitted.
We had asked Ed for breakfast at 1000 and didn't really know what to expect. 1000 came - I was still in bed ! Knock at the door and a large amazing breakfast was presented to us - it was delicious and great that I didn't even have to get up for it - nice touch !
We had a private bathroom which was ideal & the shower was great (love the light show !)
Met Wimmo & Godwin on our 2nd day - lovely guys - very down to earth & happy to pass on advice & have a blether too. They also helped by printing our return boarding cards for us which was very handy.
Cannot rate this any higher - highly recommended & will definitely be back. Although with all the excellent reviews they might not have any rooms available :(

There is nothing a rational person can complain about when staying at this B&B. We rented out the apartment for five of us and it was perfect and a great value. The location is walking distance from the train station and the owners will provide a map (and any other information you need) that will let you easily get anywhere and everywhere. The Jordaan is a really awesome area and great for exploring. Cannot wait to go back and would stay again!
