A great place to stay and Eric is a great host. Looking over the canal with a short walk to the Nine Street area and all its boutiques, cafes and bars - a great location. The flat is lovely, elegant and comfortable with really nice touches that make all the difference - such as the Nespresso machine complete with coffee! Thanks Eric we had a lovely stay and hope to come back again soon.

Be aware! There are TWO locations of Eric's B&B and several configurations which makes it confusing when you read the reviews and look at pictures. What you see and read and what you get may be entirely different. I know nothing of the Canal House which seems to be everyone's favorite and is the one photographed and featured on the website. Since it was unavailable, we booked at Tichelstraat 26 in the Jordaan area hoping for something similar. We travel a lot and always choose a B&B over a hotel for the unique experience. We were disappointed. It was just a plain building, plain room. Nothing more.

Bottom line: If you want a bed and breakfast with charm and ambiance in the heart of the city; a vibrant room with personality and a view; an attentive, friendly host and a delicious breakfast in the morning, look elsewhere. If you want a simple, clean room in a quiet neighborhood with full kitchen/laundry facilities for your use and an absentee landlord - the Jordaan area is the place for you and the following review may be helpful.

If you look at the official website, http://www.ericbnb.com/en/home, you will see that in addition to the Canal House, there is the Jordaan Apartment and the Jordaan Rooms at Tichelstraat 26. The building has three floors (that would be four American floors since the Europeans consider the ground floor "0"). The Apartment with the two bedrooms and two private bathrooms at 240 Euro/night is on the first (American second) floor. The three "small" rooms at 60 Euro are on the second floor with a shared toilet. (By the way, the landing is so small the shared toilet is no more than 5 steps from any room door). The third floor (attic) has a kitchen and public area. So where is the "large" 90 Euro room with the private toilet? It is actually one of the bedrooms blocked off from the Apartment on the first floor. This is where we stayed for two nights.

I found no pictures of our room posted and I took none. There was nothing to photograph. It is just a bedroom with adjoining shower/toilet and large window (no view to speak of) -- stark and simple. Very clean although rather cramped, it has a floor lamp, wall mounted TV, desk, chair, narrow wardrobe, bookcase (which, according to the scratches on the floor, is pushed Anne Frank style to block the door to the rest of the apartment) and a double fold-out couch. Not horrible as fold-outs go, but a fold-out nonetheless. There are no decorations or personal touches of any kind anywhere in the room. Just a magnetized whiteboard with information sheets. It is hardly "large" as designated. The only place to put suitcases is on the desk and chair or in the middle of the floor blocking the door and/or bathroom. But I guess the term "large" is relative in a typical narrow Dutch building. Everything is in black (floor, furniture), white (walls) and grey (curtains and bathroom).
The bathroom is a bit odd. Picture an elongated shower stall with a sink and toilet in it. So as you shower, water is all over the floor including where you stand by the tiny sink or use the toilet. No towel racks in there BUT! there is a handy squeegee provided to mop up the floor. (Bring your own toiletries.) It is separated from the room with just a shower curtain. Yes, that means personal noises and odors cannot be concealed. I can't imagine the other rooms on the second floor are much smaller, so decide for yourself if it is worth the extra 30 Euro/night not to have to share a toilet in the hall which is actually more private.

The Jordaan area is very quiet and out of the way. Other than occasional street traffic, we had only a few noisy revelers out late and we slept with the windows open. I'm sure the more popular areas make that impossible.

Despite its name, Eric's B&B, no breakfast is served. However, there is a full kitchen in the attic with everything you need, if you want to shop, cook and clean up yourself to save some money on restaurants. You can even launder your clothes in the washer and dryer. There is also a couch, TV and fireplace in addition to a table and chairs. Nothing very distinctive about this functional area (which one floor below is split into those three guest rooms and a toilet). There are pics of this area on the TripAdvisor board "provided by management" but not on the official website. Just look for the items I described.

As for our host, Eric, perhaps he is a different person than the one described in the other reviews. He met us there, gave us the nickel tour, took our cash and that's it. Think: hotel check-in clerk - polite, but impersonal. No chit chat, recommendations, tips, local tidbits, or shopping info -- nothing. He gave us wrong information as to where to purchase an "I am sterdam" card when we asked.
On our second night, the Wi-Fi went out. When my husband went up to the attic the check the router, he found the power was out on the third floor (attic kitchen/lounge). He texted Eric at about 9:00 PM. There was no response. There was no way to call him since we didn't have an international data plan and the phone there was out because of the electricity. By morning the refrigerator was warm so the food quality was questionable and there was no way to make it or coffee/tea. We were unable to access the internet to check on our flights and further plans for the day. We waited, hoping he'd contact us, until we decided to leave about 11:00 AM. We met Eric on the street. He told us yes, he received the text, but...nothing else. No excuses, no explanation. We just walked away. This was just not the experience of a bed and breakfast we had hoped for in charming Amsterdam.

I am hesitant to even write this review because I don't want this gem to be too widely known. This is - without a doubt - the most wonderful Bed and Breakfast my wife and I have ever stayed in. We found this B&B on a German website and, based on the excellent reviews, decided to try it. Eric met us at the agreed upon time and immediately made us feel like we were family in his home. This B&B is located in the upper two floors of Eric's house overlooking the Prinsengracht canal. The first floor is a large den-like room and a kitchen. On the second floor is a spacious bedroom and large bathroom. The apartment also includes a balcony overlooking the canal. Eric contacted us a few days before arrival to ask what breakfast items we required. All were present when we arrived. After a busy day seeing the city, it was like returning to your own apartment rather than an impersonal, sterile hotel. We loved sitting on the balcony in the evening with a glass of wine to watch the comings and goings on the canal and the streets below. This is truly a wonderful B&B and we will definitely be back. Thank you for providing the perfect accommodation, Eric!

Eric Malferrari our host at this quaint Jordaan Apartment was truly welcoming and helpful.

The apartment is located in the lovely Jordaan district. Within a 5 minute walking radius you have loads of lovely restos, bars and cafes. A visit to Winkel is a must - for the Apple Pie of course! Also located close by is the Jumbo supermarket - convenient to stock up. Centraal Station is a 15 minute brisk walk away. And the 9 Streets boutique shopping is very close by too...

The apartment itself is very cosy & spread across 3 floors. Tastefully decorated it has all you need including wifi to stay connected.

Hope to return someday! :-)

We arrived at Erics BNB right on schedule and Eric was there to meet us and had bought in the provisions we asked for.
We had a HEAP of washing to which we threw in the the washing machine as soon as we got settled then we went out and about...Eric kindly i=unloaded and dried the washing for us.

He was always available to answer questions and ordered a taxi for us to go back to the station on departure

YES!..the stairs are very steep but we managed and it makes the layout of the flat most interesting as the bedroom is up another flight of stairs..but we left our luggage on the first longe / kitchen level.

We would definately recommend Erics..Great views of the canal...7 mins walk to Anne Frank House

Thanks Eric...Paul and Barbara NZ

We stayed at the Jordaan rooms for 3 nights. We really liked the apartment and the area was beautiful. The best part of the apartment was the upstairs common area which had a kitchen, dining table, sofa and fireplace. It also had iPod speakers so we took advantage of that! Eric asked us ahead of time what we wanted for breakfast and he bought the groceries for us. We asked for berries, bread, nutella, milk and cereal. It was really delicious and nice that we were able to deal with it our selves in the morning. Eric was nice and he gave us city maps. The main downside was that the bed was horrible, it was two super soft mattresses pushed together, but the bed frames were designed in a way that the closest the mattresses could get to one another was still like an inch away. As a result we kept accidentally rolling into the crack and onto the floor. We eventually decided to sleep diagonally on the bed which was weird. Point being if you're a couple, ask about the mattress situation beforehand!

Me and my girlfriend stayed for 3 nights in Jordaan B@B. House is within a walking distance to most of tourist attractions close to metro station as well as tram stop. Eric provided us with everything for breakfast we could possibly need. Thank You for making our stay perfect.
