“Big Room, Excellent Service, and Perfect Hostess”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

What a cool apartment to start our European vacation! We relaxed in our huge room, complete with a living area, TV, stereo, travel books, efficiency kitchen, modern clean bathroom and comfortable master bed loft. The steam bath cured our jet lag. Claudia's breakfasts are delivered in a cute basket and have lots of variety. I love her Euro coffee maker and milk steamer. The third floor suite is a bit of a struggle up some steep stairs, but Claudia helped us with luggage. Good location, near attractions, but also very conventient via bus and train to airport. I would stay here again!

We had a fantastic weekend break in Amsterdam staying at the Flying Pancake. There were 3 in our group - and the Captains suite was perfect, with plenty room for an extra bed.
The house is full of character, a real classic Dutch style, and beautifully furnished with all mod-cons - coffee maker, wifi, DVD player, ipod dock and of course the steam room!
Great location on nice quiet road, not far to walk to the town centre, or tram stop.
Claudia was a great host.
Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Amsterdam!
Thank you Claudia.

What a fantastic B&B, perfect located from business centre and all attractions. Claudia is the perfect host. I liked the suite very much. It is spacious with lots of luxury. The steam bath is really super. I recommend this B&B with five stars!.

We stayed for 3 nights in the well-appointed Cooks suite where we had everything we could have wished for. An excellent breakfast delivered to our door each morning and the steam room shower were particularly appreciated! Claudia was also very helpful in arranging for us to have an extra airbed to accommodate an extra guest for a couple of nights. Our only comment for improvement would be to have some kind of door between the living area and bathroom. Would certainly recommend the Flying Pancake to others.

We stayed at the Flying Pancake for 3 nights and it was fantastic. Claudia the host is very friendly and told us all we needed to know. We stayed in the Cook Suite which is equipment with everything you might need. This includes, CDs, stereo, iPod player, TV, steam room / shower, fancy lighting controlled from a remote control, tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was great, delivered in a basket each morning. You go up some steps to your bed which is on a mezzanine floor. As others have mentioned, caveats are the 3 flights of stairs to your living area, and no door on the bathroom. The neighbourhood is nice, and many good dining place are a close walk away. I'd highly recommend an Italian place just down the road (walk towards the nearest canal, cross it, carry on, and its on your left).

Thank you very much for your great review. I am happy you liked your stay!
The Italian restaurant is relatively new, and yes, nice to have it so nearby.
For all the guests who prefer a traditional lay out of their room, including a bathroom door, the Captain's suite is the better choice ;-)
The Cook's suite indeed has a more modern open plan lay out, including a loft.

We had been really looking forward to this trip and The Flying Pancake did not disappoint. It was beautifully decorated and Claudia weclomed us into her family home with a warm smile and elegant, polite Dutch manner. She was friendly and informative about the suite and her gorgeous city without being intrusive.

The place itself is sumptuously decorated in simple understated quirky-chic style. It has homely touches like a pile of novels and guidebooks beside the leather sofa and a good selection of DVDs and CDs (lots of cafe del mar and even some simply red!). The extras were appreciated - top quality fresh coffee, chocolates and savoury snacks beside the 'Mad Men' style drinks bar (free welcome tipple too).

The wet room doubles as a steam room and the double-sinks add a little luxury. Minimal but adequate wardrobe/storage space (though but ample as we were only there for 3 days). The bathroom having no door came as a surprise to this (slightly prudish) Brit!

Location is residential, quiet and feels very safe although it is quite a stroll to the station/Van Gogh gallery. I would recommend hiring a bike if you have more than a couple of days here. We had a wonderful memorable trip all in all - we'd love to stay at The Flying Pancake again. Very highly recommended.

I booked this delightful B&B because it had a REAL open fireplace. As luck would have it the weather turned from being cold and wet to warm and sunny while I was there around Queens Day, so I did not get to use it. Claudia was away while I was there but her young replacement was delightful.
I stayed in The Cook which had the latest electrical equipment, beautiful large elegant windows, a comfy sette and a deluxe bathroom with a steam shower. My only brickbat would be the lack of a decent reading light, particularly by the bed.
It is in a nice quiet neighbourhood but close enough to two tramlines and several interesting eateries.
