Nice, clean, beautiful place, with very very comfortable beds, huge chances of having a full breakfast in a fine equiped kitchen with a fridge plenty of juices, jam, cheeses, pinneaple, yoghourts, diferent classes of bread, butter, jelly, etc, and Karel, the owner, a friendly and very polite man, always ready to help.

highly recommended.

The room was spotlessly clean and the beds where sooo comfortable and our room had a great balcony overlooking typical Amsterdam backyards.

The kitchen was great, allowing us to make tea when we wanted it. You can also make your own lunch or dinner and use the fridge for items you might want.

There is also computer that you can use with internet access.

Perfect location to everything we needed. We walked through Vondelpark which is beautiful and always bustling (good route to take for HardRock Cafe). There is a grocery and camera store just around the corner... don't forget the fabulous pizzeria! The B&B is also located on a main tram route from centraal station. The other nice thing about the location was that it was a generally quite street, but close to all the action and walking distance to museums.

When we needed help or had a problem, Karel was always the one who fixed things or found things for us. He really was great.
Karel was an incredible host during our stay.
Thank you Karel for a vacation we will never forget!

  • Liked — The Owner, Karel. The Beds. The Balcony. The Shower.

We were absolutely thrilled with our visit to The Collector. Karel, the owner of this small B & B, is a delightful person and an excellent host. He welcomed the four of us (me, my husband, my son, and my 80 year-old mother) and from there on made himself available whenever we needed him. In fact, he went far beyond the role of an ordinary B&B host and arranged to pick my mother up at the hospital since she had fallen upon our arrival in the city. And then he made sure that he was at home through that evening so that we could go out for dinner and know that she was not alone. We will be forever thankful for his kindness and help through that tough experience.

It is a beautiful and interestingly decorated house. The large rooms and baths are spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, each one having its own theme. The breakfast was plentiful and varied. We enjoyed the little kitchen for quests that was stocked to fill any need. It's great place to spend time, as well as a perfect location for touring the city. The Van Gogh museum and the concert hall are just a few blocks away, as were very good restaurants and beautiful streets. The area is apparently very sought after, and it's easy to see why.

We would certainly stay no where else in Amsterdam! It's really a special place.

We arrived on July 4th for five nights and had the most wonderful stay with Karel at The Collector. The house is a unique reflection of the owner with little nooks and cabinets containing interesting bits and pieces collected over the years. Our spacious room was in the front of the house with its own balcony. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on. Everything was absolutely spotless, but more than that, we really appreciated the little touches. For example, there were always fresh flowers in our room and the guest kitchen and we took great advantage of the free internet access.

Karel is a most gracious and accommodating host who is very knowledgeable, hospitable and friendly. Unlike traditional B&B's, a wide variety of groceries -including fresh eggs from his chickens in the back garden- are supplied and you make your own breakfast and snacks whenever you wish in the guest kitchen. This made our stay just like being at home. Karel goes out almost daily to bring in fresh bread, dairy, produce and whatever else you might like.

We also loved the location - a quieter part of city surrounded by pretty tree lined streets and beautiful shops, but still very close to everything. The Concertgebow concert hall, the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museums and the Vondelpark are in the neighbourhood and you could virtually walk everywhere in the city from thee. . There is also a tram stop with frequent service right across the street.

Compared to other places to stay in Amsterdam that we researched, this was both terrific value and very comfortable and relaxed. We would definitely stay there again!

  • Liked — Everything!
  • Disliked — Most houses in Amsterdam are quite steep, and although the stairs were not too bad in comparison, it could be a concern for some people with arthritic knees/hips

I stayed for three days and four nights a The Collector, a lovely B&B owned and attended by Kerel, which was perfect.
The room was of great size, the bathroom very clean and the look and sound from the windows to the backyard, makes you feel like in the countryside while being in a great location in the city. The neighborhood is five minutes away from the museums, the incredible Vondel Park and is very classy with restaurants nearby and the tram passes in front of the house.
Breakfast was all I'm used to: orange juice, coffee or tea, yoghurt, fruit, toast, bread and a great variety of cheese, which I enjoyed everyday.
Kerel is very polite and kind to help you or guide you in anytghing you need. I would definetely try to return to The Collector if I get a chance to go back to Amsterdam.
