We arrived on July 4th for five nights and had the most wonderful stay with Karel at The Collector. The house is a unique reflection of the owner with little nooks and cabinets containing interesting bits and pieces collected over the years. Our spacious room was in the front of the house with its own balcony. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on. Everything was absolutely spotless, but more than that, we really appreciated the little touches. For example, there were always fresh flowers in our room and the guest kitchen and we took great advantage of the free internet access.

Karel is a most gracious and accommodating host who is very knowledgeable, hospitable and friendly. Unlike traditional B&B's, a wide variety of groceries -including fresh eggs from his chickens in the back garden- are supplied and you make your own breakfast and snacks whenever you wish in the guest kitchen. This made our stay just like being at home. Karel goes out almost daily to bring in fresh bread, dairy, produce and whatever else you might like.

We also loved the location - a quieter part of city surrounded by pretty tree lined streets and beautiful shops, but still very close to everything. The Concertgebow concert hall, the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museums and the Vondelpark are in the neighbourhood and you could virtually walk everywhere in the city from thee. . There is also a tram stop with frequent service right across the street.

Compared to other places to stay in Amsterdam that we researched, this was both terrific value and very comfortable and relaxed. We would definitely stay there again!

  • Liked — Everything!
  • Disliked — Most houses in Amsterdam are quite steep, and although the stairs were not too bad in comparison, it could be a concern for some people with arthritic knees/hips

I stayed for three days and four nights a The Collector, a lovely B&B owned and attended by Kerel, which was perfect.
The room was of great size, the bathroom very clean and the look and sound from the windows to the backyard, makes you feel like in the countryside while being in a great location in the city. The neighborhood is five minutes away from the museums, the incredible Vondel Park and is very classy with restaurants nearby and the tram passes in front of the house.
Breakfast was all I'm used to: orange juice, coffee or tea, yoghurt, fruit, toast, bread and a great variety of cheese, which I enjoyed everyday.
Kerel is very polite and kind to help you or guide you in anytghing you need. I would definetely try to return to The Collector if I get a chance to go back to Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful time at The Collector. The place is convenient and very charming, but most special, the owner is very nice and flexible. He is completely devoted to what he does. He was able to make us feel as if we were staying at some friends´ without the feeling of impossing on anyone. Excellent breakfasts. Higly recommended. Laura Esteban.

Having spent a week at the Collector, we can attest to the marvelous hospitality offered by Karel, the owner. He went out of his way to help us to have a terrific and comfortable stay in Amsterdam. He is very knowledgeable and generous in giving tips and time.

The use of the kitchen which is fully equipped for breakfast and snacks was a real boon. We had breakfast on our schedule and had more than enough food, fruit, etc. It was truly our home away from home.

I recommend the Collector highly, absolutely no negatives!
