Dear Travelers
We stayed at the Collector B& B in May and found it to be the perfect place to stay in Amsterdam. Karel is charming and thoughtful, the room was airy, clean and had a lovely balcony with window doors that open to the outside. The kitchen/dining area is just for the guests (host has his own space downstairs), and Karel keeps fresh bread, cheese, fruit, eggs, yogurts and a variety of tea/coffee for the guests to serve themselves at breakfast and whenever. There is a local grocery one block away that has heat and serve as well as all the necessities for folks that want to eat in or make their own picnic. The B&B has three rooms all on the same floor so it is cozy and private, you can visit with other guests or not, there is computer access for all downstairs. This marvelous place is a couple blocks away from the Van Gogh, is on great tram lines that take you wherever you want to go, is next to a great neighborhood with boutique shops and the Vongelpark. We loved it and would return in a heart beat. Amsterdam weather is constantly changing (which we loved) so bring layers and a small umbrella. PS, it looks exactly like the photos. Loved the red geraniums and enamel cookware.

My new bride and I decided to honeymoon in Europe, with Amsterdam as the first leg of our trip. Unfortunately, the air line lost my luggage. When Karel, the proprietor of the Collector, heard what happened, he immediately offered to loan some of his clothes to me. He basically saved me from wearing the same dirty clothes for the first three days on my honeymoon. When I contacted the airline, they told me that they would deliver the luggage to where I was staying, however, I had to be on the premises to sign for it between 5pm-11pm. This would have been half a day wasted except that Karel volunteered to stay in that night to sign for it. He really is a very kind person. I may name our first child Carl or Carol depending on gender. I should also mention that the bed and breakfast was very clean, comfortable, and well designed. Actually, it was the largest and least expensive room we stayed in while in Europe. The breakfast was just what we wanted and the location was excellent for the museums. This was one of the best places we stayed in.

  • Disliked — It was a little far from the center of town.

A lovely stress free and relaxing break in Amsterdam, the Collector is convenient for the museum area, and the tram stop right outside the door is a bonus! Although we often walked into the city centre - very pleasant it was too! Our room at the Collector was very clean and spacious and the breakfast arrangement suited us perfectly. Karel was very friendly and helpful - we would definitely stay with him again and would recommend the Collector to others.

My husband and I stayed at The Collector for two nights in late May. We had a wonderful stay and can not say enough good things about this delightful B&B or its owner Karel. We arrived early in the morning and we were able to drop our bags off and then head out for the day. We were also given our choice of rooms as they are slightly different. Karel provided us with a lot of information and guidebooks that could be barrowed during our stay. The rooms are HUGE, especially compared to the size of the room that we had a couple of days later in Paris. They were well decorated in a modern/contemporary theme and very clean. The beds were also a very good size and very comfortable. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone that is thinking about a trip to Amsterdam!

  • Liked — The size of the room and decor for the price was wonderful, also a great location right off a tram stop!
  • Disliked — A bit to the south of the center of Amsterdam, but even this was only about a 15 minute tram ride.

Although we arrived late on Friday evening (past 10pm), there was a warm welcome from Karel and we were given a detailed tour of the B&B and a lot of good information about the different areas of Amsterdam. All the rooms were very clean and tidy, and you could feel the heart and soul that Karel put into his collections and the furnishing. Our room was facing the backyard of the house with a great view into the green gardens, and on the balcony you could just sit and enjoy the weather after a long tourist day in the city.
The kitchen was equipped with everything you wished for for breakfast - bread, marmelade, cheese, sausage, eggs, cereals, pancakes, milk, orange juice, coffee,... - and you could just prepare what you liked.
Furthermore, the location was great as well, right in front of a tram stop, but also just 5 minutes walking distance to the big muesums and 20 minutes to the city centre.
All in all, we had a great stay at The Collector and we can just recommend it to everybody who likes a clean, quiet lodging during his stay in busy Amsterdam.
