My husband and I found the Collector B&B through this website and could not have been more pleased with our choice. I can not say enough about this unique bed and breakfast. First of all, the place itself is just perfect. The B&B is located in a lovely neighborhood about 5 minutes walking from the Van Gogh Museum, Rijks Museum, and Concert Hall. ,My husband and I walked everywhere on our trip and found the location perfect. It is not "close" to the Red Light District, but that being said, it is probably no more than a 15 minute walk.
Karel, the owner, is an absloutely charming man who collects all kinds of things from Dutch shoes, to clocks, to canes. He lives on the first floor of the building and the three rooms are located on the second floor. We stayed in the "Clocks" Room which is the largest and faced the street. Our room was very spacious with tall ceilings, a king size bed covered in crisp white sheets and soft feathery pillows, and decorated with different collections- small ceramic jars in white or black, and clocks. The decor was a great mix of modern minimalist mixed with antique collections of the items mentioned above which made for a very warm yet hip feel. As well, there were fresh tulips on our sitting table and a balcony with plants and flowers. The bathroom was large with a big shower. We had the opportunity to peak in to the other two rooms and they were just as unique and charming so you can not go wrong. There is the "Red Room" and the "Garden Room"-- both are spacious and cozy and even though we loved our room we think we would like to stay in the Garden Room next time because it has a view of his garden and his chickens.
One of the most charming parts of staying at the Collector is that there is an adorable kitchen outfitted in red and white with antique food containers and bred boxes. Karel puts out fresh eggs straight from his chickens, and stocks the refrigerator with the freshest ingredients for a great omlet and you get to make your own breakfast. It also has a bowl full of fresh fruit, coffee pot, tea pot etc. Just like home! You get to make your brekfast whenever you can pull yourself out of your comfortable bed. It is wonderful. The other great part about the kitchen is you can go shopping at the local market and make all your meals in the kitchen if it suits you. Karel sat and chatted with us both mornings while we ate and we found him incredibly charming. He speaks great English and really goes out of his way to make your trip to Amsterdam perfect.
So, as you can imagine we HIGHLY recommend staying at this lovely and charming Amsterdam bed and breakfast!
