We've just returned from the Collector and cannot fault it. The house, rooms and kitchen are very clean and comfortable as well as being stylish. The guests kitchen is very well equipped and stocked; we had what we wanted for breakfast to suit ourselves. The location is fabulous for walking around all of the major attractions or catching the trams/buses. Despite being centrally situated on a busy street, the house was very quiet and calm. Karel, the owner was helpful and friendly.

Great location! Quiet, safe, close to Vondelpark and museums and the tram is just half a block away.
Great beds! Not always that easy to find for Americans in Europe.
Great stocked kitchen to make your own breakfast or snack anytime! I like this option, you don't have to eat breakfast at any certain time and there is plenty of food for all guests to make their own eggs, toast, pancakes, cereal, coffee, tea. There is cheese and lunchmeat, yogurt, all kinds of jams, jellies, nutella. Plus if there is something that you need, you can just ask and Karel will get it for you. You can eat it at the kitchen table or take it back to the table in your room or to your balcony if it is nice. The kitchen is on the same floor as the guest rooms so it's very convenient. When we were there one of the guests came to make her breakfast in her jammies and no one thought a thing about it. There's a dishwaher, you just put your dishes in when you're done and Karel comes and runs it once a day.
Great shower!
Great decoration! Beautiful light room, high ceilings, nice collections everywhere, but not cluttered up. Real blooming orchid on our table.
Great host! Karel was helpful in every way. Very friendly and relaxed guy with great advice on where to eat, shop, what to see and do.
The only bad thing was that we just stayed three nights...didn't want to leave!!!

Room Tip: Front room is light and bright. Noise from the street is blocked nicely by great windows, but if yo...

We visited Amsterdam twice during our vacation in July 2012.. we first stayed near Dam Square, which was hyperkinetic and noisy, but fit what we were looking for. Stopping here in the way back was perfect, because it was calm, near the vondelpark and museums. As you exited the house you felt that you were truely a resident of the city, rather than jumping into a public pool filled with tourists. It was easy to get everywhere with the public rail line a half block away. Kees, who was filling for Karel, was very thoughtful and gave us fantastic advice about where to go for an anniversary dinner and went above and beyond to make us feel special. We felt that we had a friend at the end of our visit and we look forward to our return.

We last stayed here 7 years ago, and I had forgotten just how lovely this B&B is. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and very clean. We have now stayed in 2 out of the 3 rooms, so one more to go. The whole house seemed immaculately decorated all white walls which set off the quirky object collections. Karel was just as friendly, helpful and relaxed as I remember. We will definitely stay here again and will have to stay in the front room next time.

Room Tip: We haven't stayed in the fornt room yet, but the 2 back rooms are lovely and look over the garde...

We stayed at the Collector for 3 nights in August 2012, Korel the owner was very helpful with directions from the Airport no stress atall, the location is perfect a short walk and you are at the Rijk museum, Van goff museum and many more exciting things, it's far enough away so your not in the hustle and bustle that Amsterdam can be, Korel is very kind and friendly and could not do enough for us while we were there Great host Great B & B The Collector.

This was the second time we had stayed at The Collector, the first being three years ago. It's a decent three room B&B, with a self catering breakfast set up. The owner provides the food and you cook it yourself in the kitchen that is shared by all three rooms. The last time we stayed this all worked out fine, this time however it was a little more problematic. Everyone seemed to want breakfast at the same time, and it became apparent to us that this set up doesn't work in that situation.

The owner of the collector is really friendly and helpful. Each room has a balcony (our was shared with the room next to us), which was fine until they decided to hang their washing out on said balcony. We couldn't really complain to them about it either since for some reason there is a washing line stretching from end to end of the balcony.

In general our stay was fine, we found the kitchen and general house keeping standards had slipped somewhat since our last stay. There was a lot of dust on the shelves in higher up places. The bathroom is also starting to look a little tired, with tiles missing in the shower.

We both think that it's a really decent B&B to stay at though, and really good value for money.

My wife and I stayed at The Collector for 3 nights (Aug 5 - 8, 2012) and were more than satisfied and pleased with our overall experience. We were greeted by Karl (the proprietor) who had provided excellent directions from the airport to the B&B and based upon which we arrived at the right time to meet him. A very friendly man, Karl gave us a tour of the B&B and told us to make ourselves at home.

The B&B is beautiful and aptly named. There are collections of almost everything you can think of neatly displayed and organized throughout the building. My wife and I found ourselves staring at the different collections from time to time. The property is very clean, the room was excellent and very comfortable. Given the access to the kitchen we ate dinner in (after going to a local market recommended by Karl to get supplies) on our patio.

The location is also great. Nestled within the museum district the local neighborhood has great shops and restaurants and is away from the noise of the inner canal area - though still easily walkable it was a nice break from the chaos of the main tourist areas. Also the location along the 197 bus makes it very accessible from the airport.

Be sure to ask Karl for local food recommendations as his suggestions were excellent.

Overall we had a very positive and exceptional experience and would stay again and definitely recommend this property to others. Thank you Karl for a wonderful time!

Room Tip: Our room was on the backside of the property with a large shared balcony. Great room but the others...
