the owner, irene, made us feel very welcome and at home. location was great near museums and concert hall and the neighborhood has many nice and reasonably priced restaurants. the communal self service breakfast room was very convenient. the stairs were a little bit of a challenge, but thats amsterdam. wonderful city and hospitable people. highly recommended and a good value...that's it...goodnight Irene

Between Art & Kitsch is a real gem of a B&B. The decor of our room was beautiful, funky and pretty unique, overlooking the canal and like a real little apartment in itself. The bed was ridiculously comfy, the shower had great water pressure, and the room proved a great place to crash after a busy day's walking and exploring. The location was wonderful too, close enough to the centre by tram but away from the hustle and bustle, with bars, restaurants and bike rental all nearby. Only a short walk from the daily street market, Museumplein and the Vondelpark, it was truly perfect. Irene is such a cool, friendly and helpful host and gave some great tips on how to get the best of the city. As first time visitors we followed them to the letter and they never failed to impress. We were greeted so warmly that the place really felt like home, and the self-catered kitchenette for breakfast only added to the relaxed feel and sense of complete freedom. We loved our stay here and would return in a heartbeat!

We liked so much the hostel! beautiful room, clean, optimal location (near to tram and a bike rental) and so kind people in there, they speak perfect english and have two wonderful cats. Don't have wifi but a computer with internet completely free. Maybe too many stairs.. like all houses in Amsterdam

Between Art & Kitsch is a great property very conveniently located near the city (you can walk it). We were two friends who stayed in the art deco room which has a fantastic view of the Rijksmuseum. We'll never forget having bread, cheese, salami and coffee for breakfast in the room by the window looking out at picturesque Amsterdam! It's self-serve breakfast - just go out in the kitchen and help yourself to the breads, cheeses, salamis, teas, coffees that Irene provides. It's great, you can even snack during the day or evening! There are eggs too if you would like to cook. You can also buy food from the nearby Albert Cuyp market and enjoy it in your private dining table in your room.

Also, we were very surprised and pleased to know that the room is fixed and cleaned everyday! We came home to find our luggage neatly put to the aside and our shoes also gathered together by the corner. Wifi is free too and works just fine. And Irene has a gorgeous white cat named Hatchett who we wanted to play with.

Bringing the luggage up and down is difficult sure but that's a small difficulty to pay to stay in an authentic Amsterdam house! The artist Mondrian lived here too given it a nice history.

Room Tip: Get the baroque room if you're 3 but art deco room has the best view if you're less

We spent this month of August 2011 with our daughter, seven days and seven nights at the B&B Between Arts and Kitsch of Irene.
We spent seven glorious days. Irene, the owner (who speaks French!), Is always welcoming and attentive, The breakfast is plentiful, varied, renewed regularly with 3, 4 kinds of bread, cheese, eggs, meats, jams, teas ... a treat!
The room decorated Art and kitsch, is clean and spacious; overlooking the canal ... We loved it!
Personnel who does the cleaning is nice and discreet, the towel changed regularly.
The B & B is near museums, easily accessible from downtown with 2 or 3 tram stations nearby.
We really took advantage of Amsterdam and also rested as the B & B is very quiet.
We recommend this location, in which we will return.
Yves.

Stayed here for two nights on a last minute holiday and definately struck lucky with this B and B! Room was uber kitsch (think tulip bed spreads) but with modern bathroom and a great shower. Irene is great, really helpful with advice on where to go/what to do. Our flight on the way out didn't leave until the late evening and she let us hang onto the key until we were ready to pick up our luggage, which was very convenient! The stairs are a bit of a challenge but seemingly just a feature of amsterdam housing. Thoroughly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for the large or middle-sized room. Small room is OK.

Once in Amsterdam, the best way to get the amsterdameer feeling is staying over an amsterdameer place and Between Art and Kitsch is the place: Irena is really nice and her tips are the best. In the heart of a nice amsterdameer neighbourhood, we can come and go easily, and local restaurants and bars are cool and nearby. I love it! Deeply recomend it!
