“Great Value - Ambivalent about the restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2011

Was here on business with IBM, so the location was dictated by that, and it is very convenient for IBM, no for sightseeing.
The room was excellent, quite large by European standards and the bathroom was very nice and modern. Free wifi - always a plus.
Breakfast has two options - a buffet and a "grab n go" at half the price which is more than adequate.
This hotels weak spot is the reataurant. The service is inattentive and the kitchen appears to be unable to deal with a busy dining room. The food itself was inconsistent, ranging from excellent on one evening, to appalling on another as was the service, ranging from excellent and attentive one evening to impossible on another.
All in all, good value for money, but it would make sense to eat elsewhere if one has the time and the patience to go to the city

So, Where do I begin?

We went on a city break to Amsterdam last year - which is an amazing city!
My friends decided to book a cheap hotel and we found this one to be as cheap as they got for hotels. It turned out to be a huge mistake to book this hotel.

We landed in Schippol airport in Amsterdam and got a cab to the hotel (which was advertised as being close to the airport). The Taxi fare was an absolute fortune for a 20 minute drive but luckily we could manage as we split it 5 ways.

The hotel itself is located MILES outside of Amsterdam City center. It is located near many industries and commercial center's such as IBM and the hotel is geared towards business people.

Inside, the hotel has large modern artistic displays everywhere and I found it cool and funky to look at. The rooms had a fairly basic television in them with a basic bath tub and shower combo. The beds were pretty comfortable and overall I was happy with the room.

Now for the bad parts:

Firstly, we were told that there was a residents bar in the hotel. Or "24 hour bar" as it was advertised on its website - this was false and the bar was NEVER open in the four days we spent there. Then there was the staff - VERY RUDE.Although we were initially greeted by a nice receptionist our general opinion of the staff was not at all good. I recall one waiter barking at me for taking a glass of orange juice from the breakfast buffet table as "breakfast stopped five minutes ago" and I was then told to "get lost" - as if I committed a personal offense against this man. Other staff members were rude to my friends also and we all seemed to have a bad story about the staff members.

The worst, absolute worst thing about this hotel has to be the distance it is from Amsterdam center.. To get to Amsterdam center you can
A) get a very expensive taxi or
B) get the bus/tram (I recommend getting the bus as its much faster).

You will find yourself having to walk along a deserted street for ten minutes to get to the bus/tram stop. Then your waiting another ten minutes for one to show up and then you might be stuck on the bus/tram for 25 minutes while you are dragged all over the city before you get to central Amsterdam. This for the four days I spent cost a lot of money.

Overall: Dont come here.

Im a pretty easy person to please but I just did not like this place. Rude staff, no bar, much too far away from the city center. wasting money on cabs and transport etc..

the dutch design hotel is a nice location to stay at.
The room are really good looking and comfortable.
Our ling size bed was soft and I'd a good sleep.
It is locted a little outside of Amsterdam and the next tram station is a 10 minute walk away. The ride downtown takes about 30 minutes and costs €2.60 for one way.
A parking option is the hotel own parking garage, but there is a public parking lot just 100m away where you can park for free, which is very seldom in Amsterdam

I stayed 4 nights at this hotel with my boyfriend and our first impression was fine. Despite the fact that the hotel is far away from the city centre, bus and tram connections are available. The worst thing about the hotel was the rude room service! Every morning the room service knocked our door and even entered the room at 10 am, and they kept coming in every 15 minutes! Every morning we had trouble with the room service and a lady who was also knocking the door to check the room. We were supposed to be on holiday but they didn't allow us to take a rest because of their insistent ambition for room check in the morning, and there was not any sign in the room to hang on the door in order to stop them entering the room.

Despite having booked a double, I got a twin. When I called reception, they gave me a triple, or a double with a field bed in the room. Room is fine but nothing special. Only black tea, no herbal. No milk. The breakfast was said to be €15 at reception, however I was told to pay €19 at the resto. The promotion apparently was only when you booked brekkie through reception. Ridiculous. Even €15 would have been expensive for a very average selection and cold coffee from a machine. Won't be staying here again.
