“Very pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

We booked this hotel as a 4* mystery hotel so we felt we got very lucky with how lovely it was. We only paid £37.50 each per night with breakfast as we obviously didn't know until we had booked where we were going although knowing it was 4* we didn't mind. The reception service was amazing, one of the staff members helped me to plan our excursions and we booked these trips through the hotel to save us going back into the centre of town. We got a free upgrade to a queen bed rather than twin and had the choice of a room with a shower or bath and shower. It was really lovely, as good as many 5* hotels we have stayed in. The food was really good quality, we ate there in the evening and had two courses and a large bottle of water for 60 euros. I had the special of the day which was lamb and it was presented like a true fine dining restaurant. The only downside was the options for desserts. Breakfast was lovely, plenty to choose from and very tasty. The only downside is how far out the hotel is from the centre and we struggled to find it when we got off the tram. However once we knew the way it was only a 10 min walk and was very scenic (we saw baby ducks and rabbits running around) so we didn't mind it being out of the way after our initial struggle to find the place in the rain. Would definitely recommend, loved our time here.

Very nice and extremely clean hotel. large rooms and bathroom! If you are looking for things to do within walking distance, this isn't the place for you. It is located in a business type district, on the weekend the area is like a ghost town. While we did not take buses or subways while in Amsterdam, it is my understanding the access to public transportation is within walking distance. It cost approximately 28 Euros to take a cab from the Central Train Station to this hotel. Hotel staff extremely friendly and spoke great English. We needed to check out a couple hours before the restaurant opened in the morning, staff gave us two cups of coffee in "to-go" cups.

Stayed here 3 nights recently and there are some good and some bad points. Over everything else, I paid @ £50 per night for the room without breakfast and the brilliant bargain meant that any niggles are just that, niggles.

Getting there and back from the airport doesn't have to be a mission. There is a 195 bus from Schipol Plaza which stops near the IBM building but this is only weekdays. A new 69 service is excellent and only @ E2 each way. This stops in the same place as the 195 and also at the number 2 tram stop and also operates at weekends. These routes are not covered within the hourly/daily etc tickets.

Check-in wasn't the best experience, with very abrupt service, but everyone else we dealt with on reception after that was lovely.

The first room we were allocated was a twin room which we didn't want, but we changed room next day so no great problem there. The twin room was quite grubby but the next room was a lot better. Why do hotels put dark coloured tiles around the shower area which show up every splash? If they cleaned the entire area every day it would be different but it is not nice to go into a shower with full evidence of the previous occupant. Also the main en-suite opaque glass door was not great. Again, evidence of many fingerprints all over it and it doesn't close fully so all can be heard in the bedroom unless the t.v is put on. The toilet is one side of the door, and the wardrobe/dressing/ironing/tea and coffee making area was the other side. There might as well not have been a door or wall at all for all the privacy it afforded.. Only really suitable for a single occupant.
I also agree with a previous reviewer about the toiletries, they were very drying to the skin. More and more of us are travelling without hold luggage and rely on hotel supplies so good quality is important.
The beds were comfy and we could have done with 2 spare pillows for the room but I'm sure the hotel would have supplied them if I asked as they did supply a dental and a shaving kit on request. We slept well but there was a lot of door slamming in the mornings. At one point, I felt the vibration through the headboard! This is more down to inconsiderate guests though and we did have good sleep quality each night. The temperature of the room was perfect and I believe the beds had a memory foam topper and there is a fridge in the room for your own supplies or a mini bar on request.. All very good. Not many hangers. Plenty of other storage and the t.v did what we needed it to and free Wi-Fi. Lighting was not brilliant, we had every single light on and the room was still quite dark but there is good lighting in the bathroom.
We didn't use any of the other facilities of the hotel as we used it as a base to sleep in only but it does pose problems getting into town. The bus that runs behind the hotel and goes to Leidesplein is not covered by the transport pass (GVB). There is quite a walk to the tram stop (@10 minutes) which would be an issue for some people. The number 2 tram is the best sightseeing tram route for Amsterdam and 30 minutes each way was no problem for us but if you like to pop back to your hotel during the day, this is not the hotel for you. I would not like the walk to the tram stop in the wind/rain/snow either, or if I was on a deadline. If there is one thing that this hotel can do to appeal more to tourists it would be to solve this problem somehow. Maybe some chargeable hotel transfers direct to the centre, or via the tram stop for a smaller charge?
We visit Amsterdam regularly and love using public transport, but the walk to the tram stop would stop me looking to return to this hotel unless maybe breakfast was included. There would have to be an extra incentive to return, even on the good rate we had. I'd rather pay a bit more per night to be closer to public transport. Overall, a decent hotel.

Room Tip: No real difference in my experience.

We had the pleasure to stay in this Hotel from 01/05/2014 - 04/05/2014.

Although the Hotel is far from the city Centre, there is a Bus Stop opposite the Hotel and the Tram also stops about 10 minutes walk from the Hotel.

Food was excellent.
Layout of room and bathroom very good.
Room was kept extremely clean.
Lovely bed to sleep on.
Well trained and very friendly staff.

Our first impression of Artemis Hotel was that it was a glitzy venue but stuck in a sterile business park outside the vibrant Amsterdam city center. There was no place to walk or browse in the neighborhood of two+ office buildings. Amsterdam centrum could be reached by boarding a bus right outside the back of the hotel for a 15-minute ride for by tram, a 10-minute walk to the stop. The bus came twice an hour, while the tram ran every 10+ minutes. All this notwithstanding, the attentiveness of the staff to our questions and needs was extraordinary! These individuals are hospitality professionals who know not only what this city has to offer but commanded a range of outside-of-Amsterdam knowledge that was accurate and broad. The rooms were well appointed and even those close to the elevator (not usually our first or even third choice) were quiet. For those travellers seeking to balance of city-center uproar with a quiet place to restore your soul from the day, you would not do any better than Artemis.

Really good quality hotel!!! I was really pleased with the welcoming of the staff and the room itself. Loved the design of the lobby and the restaurant. Breakfast offered plenty to choose from. The room was perfect for our needs, although the air conditioner was a bit noisy for my liking. The only downfall was that it didn't have shampoo, conditioner, showergel but they were all mixed into a single product.
