We stayed at the Artemis Hotel in March 2013 the hotel is about 30 mins by tram outside the city and is located in a fairly quiet part of town, We arrived at the hotel at approximately 1pm and we were told that a room wouldnt be ready until at least 2pm, that was no problem though and we got our room at 2pm.
Friends arrived at a similar time and were given a room with 2 beds although they had paid for a double room, after querying it with reception they were told that they would have a room for them later but couldnt give them a time (which was a bit inconvenient after the trip to the hotel as they couldnt shower or change clothes). We were charged an 8% "City Tax" when checking in and had to pay a €50 euro deposit on the room which also wasnt ideal.
I needed a travel adapter during the stay and asked at reception for one, i was asked for a €10 deposit (which was fair enough) but when i returned the charger I was charged €2.50 for use of the charger which I felt was a bit over the top.
The Hotel itself was beautifully designed and modern with lovely decor. The lobby was very spacious and well lit. The bar (although small) was very nice and sociable, however €7 for a pint of lager is up there with the more expensive places i have stayed.
Breakfast was buffet style and offered a number of options including, cereals, fruit, sausages, rashers, toast, yoghurt etc. A range of drinks were also available, including, water, milk, orange juice, multi fruit juice etc. Breakfast was served until 10am and was a great way to start the day and offered options for all tastes.
The room itself was very nice with a comfortable bed, flat screen tv, table, desk and 2 seats. Ironing board and iron and mini bar was also available. The room was clean enough although there were stains on the seats and curtains which slightly took away from the room. The free WiFi in the room was also nice. The cleaners were very good and the beds and towels were changed daily.
The hotel is well served by public transport with both bus and tram routes operating frequently just a short walk from the hotel although it is approx 20- 30 mins on the tram to dam square.
The location is fine for a business trip or for those that dont mind being away from things although being so far from the centre I felt I couldnt enjoy the city with the same ease as I may have and since the trams stop at 12.30am whenever i went out in the city for a drink a taxi was needed to get home (which cost approx €20 each time).
I would certainly recommend the hotel for business travellers or couples that want a quiet few days away from the hustle and bustle of the city however I wouldnt recommend it to young people or those on a tight budget as there are better options available.
My friends got a room that over looked a river and boasted a much nicer view than our room so I woul...
