“Quiet, clean, good location. Briliant place, cost saver.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2005

Given some of the comments here I was not sure what to expect. But, it is a great place.

Feature number 1: it is very quiet, so a good sleep, given the good beds, is more or less secured, even though this is very close to the centre of Amsterdam.

Other features: location is very close to the University of Amsterdam. Good cafe close by is at the Kriterion (wireless lan access, across the street of UvA). Internet access, good breakfast, clean shower/bathroom, fair price.

This hotel saves you money, the price is right and everything you need is at the hotel or very close by.

Last but not least: the breakfast service is obesity conscious; however, the waiter more than compensates for the apparent lack of carbs at Barbacan. No mis-understanding: the breakfast is sufficient and balanced.

3 of us were booked into a youth hostel (Uncle Bob's, which I would not recommend) and decided we had to move. We went on-line at a cafe and managed to get a room at short notice (1 hour) which was for 6 with en-suite. The next day we were moved to a room for 3 sharing bathroom facilities, which due to the fact that this small hotel is very clean and comfortable and does not cost the earth was fine.

The location is great too, if you are getting to it from Centraal Station just jump a No. 9 tram and you will be there in less than 10 mins. Quiet location with some great local bars and restaurants, far enough out the city centre but close enough to it.

The staff are great, very friendly, multi-lingual and the breakfast was Continental style and very good.

All in all, great value for money, I would go back without any problem!

Eight of us stayed at the Hotel and would definately return. It is near the Artis Zoo and within walking distance of all the main attractions. We stayed in 2 rooms with 2 double beds and Shower/Toilet inside room (Rooms 25 and 17 for info) and were relieved to find the room was clean and bright but basic. Sheets were freshly laundered and were changed on our second night. Shower wasnt great but did the job. There was internet access in the foyer, and Cigs and Pop vending machine also. Breakfast was served up to 9.30am and consisted of Boiled Egg, mixed Meat, cheese and various breads. Apple/Orange juice was 1 euro extra. Service prompt and friendly. 24hr access to rooms and supplied with additional room keys if required for group. Lad on reception at night was lovely with us despite us trooping in drunk in the early hours! He also made cup of Tea for my friend when she was feeling unwell with too much sun. All staff were lovely and i would recommend this Hotel if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful trip.

For a very tiny price (we paid a double 10 euros more than we would have paid two beds in a large 20-beds dormitory in a hostel), with basic but good breakfast, clean rooms, and in quiet district near the center, it's a good place for small budget. The place wasn't crowded (end of january 2005), and I think the acoustic between the rooms is the week part when there are lots of people, but really, for this price it's really OK. Even if there is no bathroom on each floor, as expected (no bathroom on the third one). If you expect small rooms, Ikea style furniture and basic comfort, you'll be satisfied. If you want the Ritz, you definitely should change your budget for Amsterdam...
...Oh, by the way, they rent bicycles in the hotel, which is nice as well. Don't forget your cash... if you pay with a credit card they charge you an extra amount (transaction fee). Better to have a drink somewhere instead. Enjoy your stay!

My finance and I were on a very tight budget but we got a good package deal off the internet so we decided to stay here. In sum, I would recommend it but know what to expect, or else you will be disappointed. This place is very plain and spartan, offering the bare essentials (bed, closet and cable tv). At first I was turned off by the location, it's not in the thicket of all the action, but it was only a 10-15 minute walk from it all, and a lovely walk at that along canals. Also, I was hesitant about sharing a bathroom with the floor, but it wasn't that bad. If you plan on doing this (we did it because it's very cheap this way), know that it's not going to be the nicest bathroom and that you should take flip-flops. It was clean, but being an American I know we tend to get a little squeemish about cleanliness sometimes. It's fine. Just think of it as a college dorm with shared bathrooms. Breakfast was included and it was a fine continental fare - toast (different breads), jam, butter, hard boiled egg and slices of ham and cheese, with awesome coffee. The lady at the front desk, Nelly, is also very helpful and nice. In all, stay here if you're young, on a tight budget and don't really care too much about accommodations. For us, the most important thing was staying in a clean, safe place near all the action that was cheap - and that's what we got here.
