“Good Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We were a group of 4 friends staying there for two nights.
We liked it a lot - the room was spacious and clean. The location was little out of the Amsterdam central. Then we were little disappointed that the price we got when we booked the hotel was not the right one we got the net price the staff member told us. I am not sure if it is the hotel fault might be the website that we booked with does not have the final price.

The hotel is quite close to the city centre in the De Pijp area just outside the main canals. It overlooks a nice park. The room was a good size and had a nice bathroom. The room was cleaned each day ansd was spotless. The main drawback to the room I got was that it was on a relatively busy road which had trams running from about 6 a.m. The sound proofing definitely could be better.

the included pictures speak for itself. the room should have been condemned and closed. It's not for human use at all, but would be convenient as a locker-room. Helpful staff, but probably a owner that's either has financial problemes or is speculative. Can not recommend this place to anyone. There are probably better quality rooms in this place but I did not experience these.

Starting with the pro's: The people at the desk were friendly and helpful; the room and bathroom were clean; the location (De Pijp) is good. The cons: the room was barely larger than the bed, which was soft and lumpy. If we had reserved in time, I'm sure we could have found the same quality room for half the price... or less.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Our weekend trip to Amsterdam was our second visit to the city and a first for our guests travelling with us. I made the flight bookings several months prior to our trip 6th -8th April 2013. I did find that when booking a hotel many were not able to provide two double rooms within my price range as it must have been busy. Eventually I decided on the Aalborg as the location seemed suitable. On arrival we checked into the small reception and made our way to our rooms via the lift. They were both small doubles ours on the fourth floor front and our guests at the rear on the second floor, as in most of the hotels in the city the rooms are just big enough. The beds were clean and comfortable, with small ensuite facilites which were perfectly suitable for a short stay, there was plenty of hot water for showers . I found our room at the top floor was quiet enough for a good nights sleep, again our fellow travellers enjoyed their sleep at the back of the hotel. If using the stairs be warned they are narrow and steep, but this is a feature on many of the older buildings in the city. The hotel has a small bar on the ground floor (Grolsh on draught ,
excellent!)and a smoking area on a terrace at the rear. The bar area doubles up as the breakfast room.
We decided to pay extra as this was room only and have the continental breakfast ( 7 euro if you book with the hotel online or 9 euro at the hotel). We paid the 9 euros each , however I do think this is slightly overpriced for a continental breakfast , but it was all fresh produce.
On dealing with the staff, they were all friendly and helpful with directions and advice.
The hotel is located opposite a small park and only minutes walk away from the market. Trams are available to the centre outside the hotel, but we walked as the weather was so nice and sunny that weekend. Its only 10 minutes walk from the Heineken experience,(which we went to) and opposite that you can find the canal cruises, which is a must . We all enjoyed the stay and overall thought the hotel was very good, I would stay there again. Our guests enjoyed Amsterdam and they want to go back, however it is an expensive place to eat out and drink .
