I think we had the honor of being the very last guests to stay at Peter's old B&B on Tweede Helmersstraat. He is moving to a new location in a couple months. So while it wouldn't be useful for us to review the premises, I should say that our stay at Boogaard's was outstanding, largely because of our host Peter.
He bent over backwards to ensure that our stay was perfect. Originally, we had to cancel our reservation, because he is moving to a new house; but his plans changed, and he stayed open a day longer, leaving us the only guests for one night before starting his moving. He loaned us a laptop for the length of our stay, and also loaned us a great DVD which he recommended from his huge collection. We had delicious and different breakfasts all five days we stayed, and he asked us what we wanted to have for our last day--we chose the Dutch pancakes which were the best! For a couple of the breakfasts we found ourselves chatting with him and another couple, staying there for a couple hours before hitting the city.
His dinner recommendations, which we followed up on a few times, were terrific, the best being an Indonesian restaurant called Sampurna on Singel. He also made some great recommendations about sights to see and things to do--unfortunately we didn't consult him before doing the Canal Bike--don't do it!
He is the consummate b&b owner, and when we return to Amsterdam, we will not hesitate to stay at his new digs closer to Central Station.
