“The best B&B you will ever go to.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

Our arrival at Boogard's B&B was met by Peter Boogard and his partner, Tom, who graciously helped us carry our bags up to our first floor room. Peter proceeded to show us around the beautiful 4 bedroom B&B which included separate lounge areas on the first and second floors plus extra living areas on the top and bottom floors.

The amazingly renovated house is very homely and warm which lends to you feeling very relaxed as soon as you enter. We were given a front room on the first floor which had an attached ensuite. The lounge in between the 2 rooms on this floor contains chairs, a coffee table and even a laptop for guests to use although WiFi worked fine in our room.

A full kitchen sits in the common room with a fridge including complimentary beer and soft drinks each day. A coffee machine is available for the guests as well. Not only this but Peter bakes a different cake every day which is left in your kitchen. We were treated to tea cake and brownies during our stay.

Peter was very helpful with letting us know where to go and what to see in Amsterdam advising us to pre-book tickets to museums before hand. This was very handy to avoid queues and he even helped in printing out the tickets for us.

Peter suggested a nearby modern Dutch restaurant for our first night which proved to be affordable and excellent.

..and then there were the breakfasts. Make sure you bring your eating pants because Mr. Boogard will feed you well! Quiche, Pancakes, Fruit, Yoghurt, Bagels and plenty of food to keep you fueled up for your day in Amsterdam. Not only the food but the company was fantastic as you share your meal with Peter and the other guests which can lead to interesting and enlightening conversation.

Boogard's goes above and beyond to make your stay as pleasureable as possible. A load of washing was included in the priice of the stay and Peter kindly gave me a bottle of bubbly to celebrate my birthday. His attention to detail is extraordinary.

I can't recommend this B&B enough as the services, the cleanliness, the location (smack bang in the canals) and the faciilites made this stay one of the highlights of our European trip.

Can't say enough good things about our stay at Boogaard's. The accomodations were great. Room was very clean, comfortable, and nicely adorned. Between the 2 availabe rooms is a very comfortable and charming sitting room/lounge, replete with travel guides/books, art books, a laptop for guest use, and freshly baked treats. Peter, the owner and manager, is an extremely gracious and accomodating host. He prepared us terrific breakfasts, provided us with excellent tips on local site-seeing, and engaged us in very interesting conversations. Boogaard's is also very nicely situated in the Joordan district, amidst Amsterdam's beautiful canals, and just a five minute walk from the Central Station. Not far away is the Dam area. We definitely know where we will be staying when we go back for our next visit to Amsterdam.

We stayed at Boogaard's for six nights and found it an ideal location for exploring Amsterdam--a quiet street in the heart of the city and walking distance from about everything. Peter is a wonderful host. The room was spotless and his breakfasts were great. We thought of him as a friend by the end of the stay.

Having stayed in other hotels and B&Bs in Amsterdam I can highly recommend Boogaard's B&B as The place to stay.
Peter is a charming and welcoming host who ensures that you have an memorable stay, and gives the impression that nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts rate a special mention as great homecooked meals. This excellent customer service is twinned with the comfortable and clean rooms in a central location.

Peter Boogaard, the owner and chef, greeted my wife and I with expressive kindness that was attentive, articulate, and conscientious. The B&B was easily located on a very unique and charming little street. The facade of Boogaard's is the only painted red and is easily recognizable in the residential juxtaposition of Amsterdam. There are two levels of guest occupancy above a ground level where breakfast is served. My wife and I stayed on the third level in the Pug Room. Our view was of the classic Amsterdam style buildings above the quiet street below. The room was very clean, interestingly decorated, with a sizable shower and toilet area, certainly larger than most I have encountered traveling In Holland. Outside our room on the interior we enjoyed a large sitting room complete with cozy couches, computer, coffee and tea area, refrigerator with some complementary drinks, and, most importantly, fresh homemade baked pastries and cakes. This really made it feel like home! Good communal security is part of the routine at Boogaard's and my wife and I never felt at risk. The Breakfasts at Boogaard's were outstanding and plentiful! What we could not finish at breakfast was packed and enjoyed for lunch or a big snack later in the day. Everything was delicious from the Dutch pancakes with a variety of authentic toppings, enormous light and fluffy quiches, to the bagels and lox with all the fixings. Yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, juice, coffee or tea, and great conversation accompanied each meal. It was difficult to leave that kind of hospitality. Peter is a genuinely caring and giving person whose insightful generosity gives Boogaard's the feeling of home. Our first choice in Amsterdam is Boogaard's B&B and we look forward to returning.

We've been talking about getting back to Boogaard's ever since our first visit two years ago, and finally managed it this summer. It seems a little strange writing it, but this little B&B in Amsterdam was so important to us that we actually waited to book our flights until we confirmed that Peter had openings during our dates!

Sometimes anticipation can lead to a letdown, but not in this case.

We enjoyed the Jack Russell room so much last time that we were happy to be able to book it again. It surprises me that one or two reviewers did not like the "back" rooms! Having seen both the front and back rooms on the upper floor, we actually prefer the back side of the house. It's sad that one very off-key voice can sometimes ring out above a chorus.

Peter's great recommendations during this stay included the Dutch Resistance museum, Season's Restaurant, and a wonderful bicycling adventure to Haarlem (where we caught the organ concert in the cathedral).

Now, I wonder how long it will be before we can manage to get back?

We enjoyed our stay with Peter at Boogaard's. We would highly recommend this B & B to friends and family. In fact, we already have. Comfortable, Clean, Relaxed. Perfect. And none of that "Continental Breakfast" stuff here. Peter gives you a REAL breakfast. You really don't need another meal 'til dinner.
