We arrived at Boogaards after traveling for 2 weeks, and were greeted by Peter leaning out the open dutch door on the front of his house and greeting us by name. Wow. It’s a good thing that this was our last stop in Europe, or else we never would have wanted to move on.
During our two weeks we stayed at some very lovely places, thanks in large measure to the reliable evaluations here at Tripadvisor… but Boogaards was in a class of its own. Yes, the location was perfect, and the room was lovely, and the shared common space with refrigerator, coffee, and baked treats was welcome, and certainly the breakfasts were the best of the trip. The recently remodeled canal house retains all its charm with a nicely updated interior… especially a spectacular setting for those home cooked breakfasts.
But as others have noted, it was our hosts that made our stay at Boogaards.
From that first cheery greeting to our final parting for the train station, Peter was a comfortable friend away from home. His tips on restaurants (Bravo Sampurna!), destinations, and local businesses were valuable and reliable. His suggestion that we rent “yellow bikes” for our stay was spectacular. And Tomas, Pepe, and Curley also all made us feel welcome every minute of our stay.
I have never imagined that a lodging could be a destination for me, but Boogards is that kind of place.
