“No nonsense restaurant with good service and tasty food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

We were the only people when we arrived for dinner and later on 2 more people came in so it was very quiet and peaceful. The restaurant is basic but cosy and we were served quickly and attentively. Although we didn't wait long for the food, it was definitely being cooked in the moment because I could see someone chopping in the kitchen and all the smells started coming out as they were frying stuff. There are lots of options and you can have Indian or Nepalese food and specify how spicy you want each dish. I ordered chicken masala/vindaloo and my husband ordered chicken cooked in a garlic tomato sauce, both came with rice and we ordered Peshwari naan on the side. The portions were plentiful and very tasty, they got the spiciness of my dish just how I wanted it and the naan was perfect- very aromatic and just the right texture, slightly toasted on the outside and chewy on the inside, it was the best part of the meal. In total we ordered the 2 main dishes which come with rice, 1 portion of naan which was enough for both of us, one small bottle of wated and half a litre of beer and it came to 34 euros which was very reasonable for the good food and good service.

“Very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

Don't be fooled by the decor. This is a small, cosy restaurant with great food & good service. We really enjoyed the chicken korma & the lamb tikka masala

“Enticing flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We have walked into this restaurant on a cold rainy evening and were instantly surprised by the youthful atmosphere, warm welcome and the savory dishes. Crispy papadums, a wonderfully crusty onion bhagi and the enticing flavors of the sherpa curries made it all an unforgettable evening. Highly recommended, this place is really special: nepali cuisine at its best!

“Perfectly fresh and spicy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

While not powerfully enticing as you approach the door to this modest restaurant you must climb a few narrow steps to an equally, awkwardly narrow entrance. Let its mystery prepare you for flavors you'll want to bottle and take home. Tandoori was recommended by the host and the cauliflower was out of this world. We read reviews that Amsterdam
wasn't known for Indian. They haven't been to Ashoka.

“New but the best in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

We three friends were roaming in Amsterdam nearby by central station. Martin proposed to have Indian dinner and just saw an Indian Restaurant. Knew nothing about it before but had a best Indian dinner ever.
