Before we booked this hotel stay at the Hampton Amsterdam Arena/ Boulevard I called the hotel to verify that the hotel was by the downtown Amsterdam train station. I was told it was and based on that, we made reservations to stay there, as did friends who were meeting us for five days in Amsterdam. Imagine the shock when we discovered that it is actually NOT in downtown Amsterdam, but several miles outside in a very commercial center area. Yes, there is a train station, but it is NOT the Downtown Amsterdam Central Station; it is the Amsterdam Arena/ Boulevard station. To get to Amsterdam requires a muni or train ride of about 15 minutes or a very expensive cab ride. As were checking in we attempted to change hotels, only to be told the downtown Hiltons were all fully booked. So we were stuck there. To make matters worse, there is heavy construction in the area, with lots of mud and planked areas to walk through. None of that was something we knew about. On the plus side, the staff was very professional, the rooms are quiet and well appointed and the breakfast items were varied and plentiful, especially on the weekend. However, unless you want to be OUT of downtown Amsterdam for some reason, do not book this hotel.
