Typically the Dutch by their bread daily from Bakkerijen, not the supermarket. So any bread you
buy is going to be fresh and tasty. Here are some typical Dutch delicacies you can try: Krentenbol
( bun with raisins), Sausijsenbroodje ( type of sausage roll ), any of their pre filled roll selection
especially on their brown breads, a gevulde koek ( large cookie filled with almond paste, yum!),
a slice of real Dutch apple pie, or just buy the pie.Any and I mean any Dutch pastery or cakes you can lay you hands on. And now that you have blown the diet, go and find a Patat kraam, ( a chip
shop) and order a Patat speciaal ( fries with mayonnaise, ketchup and fresh chopped onion or
Patat Oorlog ( chips with mayonnaise and satay sauce). Don't knock it until you try it!!!

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We were here every day for breakfast. Friendly staff, cheap food (1eur for a huge croissant), fresh orange juice and made to order sandwiches. Love this place!

“Fresh, fast, friendly, fabulous!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Mmy Mmmichael - an Ammsterdam'r, always RAVES about Bakkerij de Waal!!! As he works in the close vicinity, he frequently enjoying their fabulous baked daily fresh goods. We are happy to direct 'de Waal' to those enquiring where they can catch a quick bite. Popular for these reason ~ variety, fresh quality & fantastic service!! You'll find 'de Waal' easily ... located on Damrak directly across from de Bijenkorf ... steps from Dam Square, situated between Madame Tussauds Museum and Central Station. Look for their 'bakkerij de Waal' lighted sign on the corner of their building. Enjoy!!!
