“Very pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

As opposed to our other food experience in Amsterdam, we had a lovely dinner in this place. We arrived around 20:00 without reservation and we did not wait at all, they seated us immediately (7 people). While you wait to order you can have a lovely bread and butter with mustard (don't eat too much otherwise you won't enjoy the food). Then we ordered all different things, ranging from appetizers and both fish and meat main courses, and at least five desserts. The quality of the food was really good and the service was excellent, very well timed and perfectly capable of managing a hall full of customers. The price was around 22 EUR per person including drinks (beer, wine and water). Definetely worth it and to keep in mind if you are in Amsterdam.

“Is this a modern take on hospitality?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

Yes, the gin and tonic was good. But it was an alternative to a preferred Manhattan they could not make because of a lack of ingedients. That should be mended, if The Lobby is to be the right kind of lobby. Yes, the flamkuchen was a good snack. Perhaps it was the time of day that brought with it that the main goings on whas about staff having a great time together. No problem, staff having fun. But it emphasized the lack of buzzing customers. We felt a bit out of place. Not totally an after thought, but not the main point of attention. Too much of the good friends kind of stuff, not enough of a professional attitude, even of the contemporary lounging drinking and eating place kind. It might all sound a little haughty, but the point made is that a little nudge here and there and here might make this a place in the heart of Amsterdam you go to, to sit back, enjoy and be treated to... a Manhattan!

“Excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

We were staying in the hotel V where this restaurant is located, and we enjoyed dinner so much that we returned for breakfast. For dinner we started with oysters (good, not great), and scallops with slow cooked pork belly and quinoa (not good). The scallops themselves were excellent and cooked perfectly, but there were only 2 small scallops. The pork belly was clearly not "slow cooked" and was so tough it was inedible (I could not cut it with a knife). The entrees were amazing! My boyfriend had the duck which was perfectly seasoned and very juicy, with a crispy skin. I had the mushroom risotto which was the best risotto I've ever had. The risotto was cooked perfectly, and very flavorful! What really stood out however was the breaded fried egg on top which was cooked perfectly! We're still not sure how they breaded it and cooked it so perfectly (white completely cooked, yolk runny so it oozed out over the risotto when cut). For dessert we had the creme brûlée and warm chocolate cake with rum raisin ice cream and salted caramel sauce. Both were delicious. We did wait a very long time for dessert (the waitress brought us drinks on the house at about the 20/25 min mark).
For breakfast we both enjoyed the eggs Benedict (partially because my egg from the night before was cooked so perfectly). The eggs Benedict was delicious and the eggs were perfect, again. The hollandaise sauce was a little more lemony than usual which I enjoyed more than my boyfriend.

Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast and dinner...I'd just skip the appetizers.

“Great restaurant in the hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

I'm always skeptical of eating at the hotel due to my bias that they have you (or they think they have you) as a captive audience. The Lobby is an exception to that bias! It is actually striving to be a great place to eat. The vibe is fantastic, absolutely great. The first night we were there, I asked the bartender about the music playlist, it was so perfect for the place. In fact, both nights that we stayed at the hotel, my husband and I just sat and had a drink before dinner at one of the two cozy sitting areas created at the ends of the restaurant (tables in the middle). The night we had dinner, we all enjoyed our food as it satisfied a wide range of palates from the pescatarians in the crowd to our sons, ages 21 and 14. Those considering a stay at this hotel should know that breakfast here was a great deal as well, when purchased in advance along with your hotel reservation.
