“Friendly, great beer, great ambiance. What drinking beer should be all about.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

This is based on a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. This small brown bar was full without being heaving and we squeezed in to a small table at the back, with much mutual apologising and shuffling up of existing punters. The beer was excellent (as you'd expect) and the gentle buzz of conversation and occasional gentle laughter was infectious. I could have stayed there a very long time indeed. The kind of pit stop you look back on with great fondness and an urge to return. The (generous) cheeses were good too.

“small, but overcrowded beer den”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

I have been here 3 or 4 times, but was surprised when it was closed down for some town. Later I read in the local and national newspapers why that was. It re-opened late 2013.
When I first got there with 2 friends, small and cosy pub with beer specialities. O.K. they were over-priced, about 20% more expensive than other pubs close by selling the same special beers on a better location with a view on the squares, canals and streets, putting that aside it has its charm as a small pub.
The surrealistic afternoon I spent there with an American friend was us entering Gollem and everyone, literally everyone, in Gollem was drinking Pauwel Kwaks using the wooden stands the laboratory glasses are put in. that was so awkward, and funny. The pub has a nice atmosphere, but can be way too crowded, and if you want to use the lavatory then it is a) difficult and b) unpleasant for the people sitting close to the lavatory door, they constantly have to stand up and move their chairs. Unfortunately it is charging way too much,

“Tourist Trap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

The good: Large selection of beer, central location, patient staff
The not so good: Loveless chain store, manned by a single bar tender who was clearly overtaxed serving a bar so full that people were standing everywhere, leading to long wait times. Exclusively frequented by tourists. Some beers were out and this would sometimes be marked on the menu board and sometimes the bar tender would have to tell customers, sometimes repeating this many times to different people who wanted the same beer.
Advice: Amsterdam is a city full of great bars. Explore.

“Great beer bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Fantastic beer hole in the wall. Huge range of beer. I went for the stout and it was super tasty. It is a veery small place so go early when there is still room.
