“Brand new boutique hotel in the heart of Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

If you are looking for a very good hotel right in the heart of Amsterdam, this place may just be what you are looking for. We stayed here in July 2013 with the hotel just open for about a month or so.
This 4-star hotel is in a relatively quiet side street of the Dam square (the center of the city). The lobby is decorated with a giant chandelier and connects to the restaurant/bar. The hotel also has an pleasant outside terrace to the side of the hotel.

Rooms have a normal size and are nicely decorated. Beds are very comfortable. Our room faced the front of the hotel, but thanks to the double glazing we had no trouble sleeping. Both rooms and hallways are protected with a keycard, so only accessible for guests. The bathroom again was of normal size with a great rain-shower.

Opposite the hotel are the offices of one of Hollands leading newspaper (NRC) and further down the street are some restaurants, bars and small theaters. The hotels is just a few minutes walking distance from the more touristy areas (Dam square (Royal Palace), Rembrandt square (cafes) and the Red Light district), but seems like a small island of tranquility amidst all the busy surrounding areas.

Our room did not include breakfast, but a variety is available downstairs at reasonable prices. Rooms are not cheap, but if you are looking for a quality stay in the heart of Amsterdam this may just be it...

Booked this hotel on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews. Easy to find, approx 20 minutes' walk from Central Station, Nes is a narrow street leaving the southeast corner of Dam Square.

Immediate impression is of a quirky place, oversized chandelier in reception, theatre bill wallpaper, dark corridors. Our room was at the rear on the first floor, outlook on to a roof and opposing wall which had been decorated with pot plants. We didnt feel we could leave the window open as other rooms shared the same outlook. However, the air-conditioning worked well so no need. Note there are no controls for this in the room so you are at the mercy of the management, but the room temperature was fine throughout our stay.

The bedroom was minimalist in style but bed was large & comfortable, lighting OK. The industrial-style clothes storage mentioned in previous reviews actually works quite well; at least you are unlikely to leave anything behind.

Bathroom was stylish in a stark sort of way, shiny white bath contrasting with matt black sink and loo. The walk-in rainfall shower was really appreciated after a day's sightseeing.

We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant (The Lobby) and also had dinner there one night. Food was excellent on all occasions and was served by very friendly, cheerful staff. One tip would be not to pay upfront for breakfast as that covers the "full Amsterdam" option and we were more than satisfied by the "small Amsterdam".

Our only negative observation was the building work from next door which interrupted our attempted lie-in. The V management were most apologetic and had tried hard to keep noise to a minimum.

So, overall, a very comfortable stay and we would have no hesitation in returining.

Room Tip: Room 112, at back of hotel was quiet at night

Hello, and thank you for reviewing your stay at V Nesplein.
I like your positive spin on things:
"The industrial-style clothes storage mentioned in previous reviews actually works quite well; at least you are unlikely to leave anything behind."
Indeed, that is a plus! ;)

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon, when we arrived, our room wasn't ready yet (we were a little early for 2pm check in) and were offered to have a drink in the bar. About 20 minutes later the lovely lady from the reception yold us that our rooms were ready and that our bags had already been taken up. We mentioned while we were checking in that it was a honeymoon and when we entered there was 2 hearts of rose petals on the bed. The staff also gave us a map and highlighted all the areas of Amsterdam that we may be interested in.

The room was quite large and well decorated, in fact the decor of the whole hotel is awesome. The bathroom was large and the shower is huge. If I had one criticism of the room it would be that it was a little dark.

We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant "The Lobby" on most days and it was excellent. The bar/restaurant was far superior to most found at hotels and i would recommend it even as a stand alone dining experience. We probably had the best meal we ate in Amsterdam in the restaurant for dinner one evening, it was also really good value for money (30ish Euro's for 3 courses can't remember the exact cost)

The area the hotel is in is great with plenty of theatres and bars and the hotel is 5 minutes walk from most of the main attractions.

Overall an excellent experience and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Amsterdam.

This is one charming hotel, brand new, great service, excellent location. Would have been 5 stars but we love sleeping with windows open and it was virtually impossible due to constant noise outside. If you are ok with it, stay

Room Tip: Room 102 (extra large superior)

Thank you for reviewing your stay at Hotel V Nesplein! Excellent to hear that you had a nice stay, but sorry that people on the street kept you awake! Next time ask at reception for our complementary ear plugs! As Amsterdammers we are used to the noise, but we have a whole supply of earplugs on standby for those that aren't.

Until next time,
Amanda

Loved this hotel for the decor, friendly staff and location. The restaurant in the lobby was also excellent with outdoor seating. My only complaint would be the courtyard off of the hotel is shared by a bar/restaurant and it get really loud on a Friday night until the late hours. Our room was 214 and sleeping was almost impossible with the bar noise in the courtyard.

Thank you for your review. Sorry that the bar crowd disturbed your sleep. Next time please ask at reception for ear plugs! We have them ready and waiting (and free!), as we know that not everyone is used to the sounds of citylife.

Kind Regards,
Amanda

Nice hotel, with good location, obligated us to a second room instead of a larger room with an additional bed, because of our two 7 year old kids
There was serious construction noise in the morning at seven am
Staff in restaurant extremely friendly

Thank you for reviewing your stay at Hotel V Nesplein. Sorry to hear that the nearby construction disturbed your sleep. You can bet our General Manager had a word or two to say to the construction site about that! Next time, perhaps you can pre-book a suite so that the whole family can stay together in the same room.
Kind Regards,
Amanda

Upon arrival on an ordinary late Monday night this hotel immediately felt special: struck by the beauty of the Lobby's interior with it's magnificent giant chandelier it took us some minutes (and many Oh's and Ah's later) to reach the stylish frontdesk where a kind young man wished us a warm welcome. Great staff: very professional, friendly and helpful!
After check in we found a spot at a table in one of the cosy corners of the splendid Lobby restaurant/bar next to the beautiful vintage globe (with real liquor inside!) and fire place. We enjoyed the nice view on the Nes street where we saw local people passing by on their way to explore the capital's vibrant night life. After a knowledgeable explanation on the extensive wine list we chose a delicious Vouvray dessert wine. Although the kitchen was already closed the bar lady made an exception for me (that's good service!) and let me taste one of their superb desserts: walnut-choco mousse cake with salted caramel and creme cru ice cream. Tired but satisfied we went up to our room (spacious, light, luxury but unpretentious with a great eye for detail) where very comfortable beds were waiting for us. Beautiful large bath room with a lovely rain shower AND bath! Well rested we could start the next day fresh after enjoying V's Full Amsterdam breakfast which kept my belly full for the entire day.
We had a perfect and memorable stay and we will definitely come back soon! Thumbs up for the V crew!
PS. Make sure you have the house specialty Flammkuchen for lunch! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Probeer een kamer met bad te boeken!

I love this review! You definitely have a way with words, and I am so glad that you had a great stay and made proper use of the whole hotel (drinks, dinner, lunch, breakfast, lobby, bathtub, bed, etc).
Oh and that salted caramel chocolate cake?! TO DIE FOR, right? Here's to hoping it stays on the menu long enough for your next visit!
