“Delightful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

The Weavery is by far the best B&B experience I have ever had... I wanted to surprise my wife with a trip to Amsterdam for her birthday, so as usual she expected that we would be staying in a hotel, but we stayed at The Weavery, and what a delight it was!
The area: The Weavery is ideally located in the historic Centrum of Amsterdam, just a couple of hundred meters from the picturesque canals and the Rijks Museum, the neighbourhood is lively, energetic and offers a lot of possibilities for shopping and eating out, Bettina will help with giving you the best tips.
The house: The owners have made a tour de force in transforming their 300 years old house into the cosiest nest that can be. We stayed in the Suite, an amazing room with a terrace that can accommodate even a family with 2 kids thanks to an ingenious use of the space under the attic. The decoration is tasty, elegant and very thoughtful. Even the bed linnen are made of noble and natural materials, the bed was very comfortable.
The hosts: Bettina and Driss, so kind and so helpful. We were surprised by the little details that exceeded all our expectations, on our first day, as we arrived in the Suite, we found a bottle of champagne and a cake to mark my wife's birthday, it really made her day...
We received many tips that made our citytrip so much pleasant, including shopping addresses, restaurants...etc
Needless to say that Bettina has elevated the B&B business into an artform. And as far as we are concerned, there will be repeat visits at The Weavery. A one of a kind experience!

The Weavery is in a perfect location, very near Museumplein, Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein and only a 15 minute walk to most everywhere else. For those not interested in walking, it's close to the tram stops and bus stops. Bettina is the perfect host - helpful advice with a good orientation (both beforehand with emails and after you arrive), preparing a breakfast platter of meats and cheeses, fresh orange juice, yogurt, homemade jams, coffee/tea, a bowl of whole fruits, and a cooked to order egg with a basket of fresh rolls every morning. The upstairs suite was roomy with a terrace off the back. Several days we came home to find homemade treats awaiting us. Our only complaint would be the street noise (loud talking) during the nights even though it's on a small quiet street.

Room Tip: Top floor suite is ideal, but the steps are very, very steep and winding!

Every home comfort has been thought of at The Weavery. Bettina and her husband have made every effort to make your stay perfect. Comfortable beds, clean and neat decoration. Bettina leaves her baking "treats" each day- delicious and such a lovely touch.A perfect location near the Museums and every effort was made to advise us where to visit and how to get there.
Restaurants, bars and supermarkets all within walking distance. Their hospitality was wonderful and we would highly recommend The Weavery to anyone wishing for a relaxed and homely stay in Amsterdam.....thank you.
A wonderful stay over Kings Day celebrations- such fun!

Room Tip: We stayed in the basement room and could not fault it!

We felt so welcome in this amazing bed&breakfast in the middle of Amsterdam. We found here so much more then any other place we have ever stayed. Not only are the rooms amazingly beautiful, but Bettina and Driss really took care of us. Arriving on valentines day 2014, we found a beautiful (home-made) heart shaped pie and (home-made) heart shaped cookies in our warm and cozy room, accompanied by a nice bottle of champaign. Also the breakfast was so nicely presented, it made the whole experience more and more special. Our pleasant stay in Amsterdam was entirely thanks to The Weavery. Next time when we'll be there, we know where to check in.

We can't remember the last time we stayed in a place that was so perfectly lovely that we didn't want to go home. The Weavery is just such a place. After a nine night stay we were almost sorry that we had to pack our bags and leave for home.

Located in a typical 17th century Amsterdam house on a quiet side street in the historic South Canal Ring district, The Weavery has the perfect location, being within easy walking distance of many top sites, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh & Stedelijk museums, the Concertgebouw, Vondel Park, the Flower Market, etc, as well as within easy walking distance of the numerous nice restaurants & shops on Utrechtsestraat and of the antique shops and art galleries on Nieuwe Spiegelstraat. Slightly further afield but still doable on foot are the Anne Frank House, the Jordaan district and the Historic Center.

Our room, The Suite, is on the top floor. It is quite huge with a high, peaked ceiling with exposed beams. Half of this big space has been turned into an upper level sleeping loft, ready for additional family members, children, etc. There is also an outdoor deck. The room also has complete kitchen facilities and, of course, private bathroom. And lets not forget the beautiful Moroccan hand woven rugs that are upon the floors. Everything is wonderfully well maintained and spotlessly clean. The total space is probably larger than your average NYC studio apartment. We assume the ground floor room, the Silk Room, is equally lovely.

Bettina Abaouz, the innkeeper, is the very heart & soul of good cheer and the perfect helpmate for the clueless traveler, having ready at her finger tips a wealth of knowledge about Amsterdam and the Netherlands. She will be happy to make dinner reservations, get museum tickets, etc, etc. She directed us to many really good, reasonably priced restaurants in the area. Also, she and her husband and two little girls live on the 1st & 2nd floors of the house. (The ground floor is the other guest room.) In our opinions it is always an excellent thing to have the innkeepers living in the inn.

Breakfast is served in the room each morning. Freshly backed breads and eggs (hard or soft) are left in a basket outside the door of the room at a time of your choosing. The fridge is well stocked with cheeses, yoghurts, jams, milk, juice, etc. There is a coffee machine and pot for boiling water. You do have to make your own coffee & tea. From time to time freshly baked cookies, muffins and little cakes appear magically in the room.

There is a discount for longer stays. The rate that we paid for a double in The Suite, including breakfast, was around 170 euros per night - a bargain as far as we're concerned. No doubt rates change with the seasons. But there are only two rooms. So if you are seriously considering it you will no doubt need to book well ahead.

In short - we can't wait to go back. Amsterdam is a great city with much to see and do. And The Weavery is the perfect place from which to do it.

Only caveat: The Suite, on the top floor of a four floor building, is reachable only by a very narrow, very steep stairway, two flights up with two reverse curves. This, while typical of many old Amsterdam houses, could be a problem for some people. If so there's always the ground floor Silk Room.

Room Tip: The top floor Suite is the room to book. But be advised it is only reachable by means of a narrow an...

We (myself, my husband and 10 year old son) stayed at The Weavery for 7 nights in July of 2013 and loved it so much that we went back just last week for another 5 night stay (April 2014). We stayed in the upstairs room the first time, and downstairs the second (because the upstairs was booked). Bettina is a fantastic hostess. She helped us with selecting restaurants, figuring out the transportation system, buying tickets online for museums, suggesting itineraries and even set up a hair appointment for me! She also loves to bake and frequently leaves little treats and notes in the room, which was always a nice surprise. I left feeling like I made a new friend!

Both rooms are great, though the upstairs room with the loft is ideal if you have kids. Our son loved the pull down stairs with the queen bed all for him. It was like his own little fort. The upstairs place also has an outdoor patio and a spacious kitchen area. We only ate one meal out each day and ate the rest of the time from all the delicious food we purchased at the nearby organic market. On our second trip we stayed downstairs, since the upstairs was booked, and the downstairs space was great for our family of 3. There is a secure area outside the room where suitcases, shoes, and coats can be kept, leaving more space in the room. Bettina put a single bed in the room for our son, and it was perfect for him. This room also has a small kitchen, which we again used for a meal or two each day. The advantage of the downstairs space is that you don't have the long, steep staircase to negotiate, which may be an issue for some.

The location of The Weavery is perfect if you want a place that's a little quiet but also really convenient. It's super easy to take a bus from the airport, which drops you off about 5 blocks from the hotel. You are very close to the Rijksmuseum and there are lots of good restaurants nearby. The tram system can get you anywhere in Amsterdam within 10 minutes, and you can pretty much walk anywhere in a half hour (even with a 10 year old in tow!) I have recommended this place to everyone I know, and we will definitely be back. I just wish it wasn't so popular...be sure to book early!

Room Tip: Upstairs is quieter and larger (easily sleeps 4, maybe 5 if one is small child), but has steep stair...

The Weavery is the perfect place for people who don't really like hotels. The suite on the top floor is more of a small apartment, with its own staircase, kitchen facilities, two double beds (one high up in the eaves), bathroom, sitting area and a roof terrace. It has all been expertly designed with comfortable and carefully chosen furnishings to create a really wonderful place to stay, especially during the dark, stormy days of late winter. It's also perfectly placed for cultural and gastronomic pursuits. From Bettina's fantastic baking and recommendations (not to mention the bottle of Prosecco in the fridge), we really couldn't fault it.
