Petra and I have been frequenting the 'Pata Negra' in Reinwardtstraat for around 9 years. We live very close so it's become our 'local'. Like many restaurants the 'Pata Negra' has had it's moments, going from very good for many years, to very average for a while, changing with the times, and the cooks and waiting staff that come and go as they do in most restaurants. If I'd written this review 2 years ago the rating would have been much different :))
The good news is the 'Pata negra' is now better than ever! Along with a great team of Spanish/South American staff, José the owner has employed a fantastic 'pintxo' cook, Miguel from Basque country and boy can he cook! Every day except Monday and Tuesday the place is overflowing with mouth-watering 'pintxos' (snacks like tapa's but from the north of Spain, usually with a skewer or tooth-pick through it) 'estofado' tortilla, jamon, roast pork/veal/ and beef, all manner of seafood, a variety of sausages including delicious 'morcia' (blood sausage), and a selection of vegetarian dishes. Most of the produce is imported from Spain.
The pinxtos are available from around 13.00 through to 19.00 and are a real treat. Since Miguel started a few weeks ago we've been there nearly every day! Prices range from €3.00 for a basic snack like bread with a piece of tortilla on top, through to €4.50 for really sophisticated pinxtos that look like pieces of art, and taste like proper authentic Northern Spanish food. 2 or 3 of these are quite filling. In Amsterdam we're used to paying a lot of money for very little quality when it comes to eating, so forking out for this is a pleasure!
They also have a fantastic selection of Spanish wines from €22-€36 to wash everything down while you listen to a little Spanish music. Try the 'Crianza reserva'....... gorgeous :))
Beware this place is full every weekend and a reservation is usually recommended.
