“Excellent food, best value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

I have eaten here many times over many years. The food is always tasty, generous portions and friendly service. The best place to get a warm meal on a cold and rainy day. Best value for money in Amsterdam. The restaurant is very simple and tiny (3 tables). Sit in and enjoy the feeling of the neighborhood as people get in and out for take-away.

“Kam Wah Are You So Good?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is a tiny little Chinese eatery in the Jordaan District. It only has a few tables, so you need to be patient, or order a carryout, which is what we did.

This is one of the only restaurants we visited where the proprietor did not speak any English, so ordering food was a bit of a challenge, but she was very patient and helpful. If you don't speak Dutch, or Chinese, it might be helpful to study the menu before ordering. It also helps to know the Dutch words for chicken, beef, vegetables, etc. We also found a number of French terms on the menu, which made ordering much easier for us.

You might wonder why someone would go to a Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. The simple answer is that we have found that Chinese food in Europe is much tastier than what we get in the U.S. Our experience has been that it contains less salt, and no msg in any of the dishes--this was also true in Berlin. The portions are also smaller, and less gloppy, than what we are accustomed to receiving in the U.S.

The food at Kam Wah was very good. The portions were generous, but not to the point that you feel over-stuffed if you ate the entire dish. We ordered the Pineapple Chicken, and a vegetable & rice dish. Both were very good. I would definitely go back to Kam Wah.
