“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Hotel Espresso is located close to the museums and the Leidesplein. It is clean and comfortable with a good elevator. Do not be fooled by anyone saying reservations are not needed for hotel parking. Street parking is very expensive and the hotel parking is limited. Make a reservation if you wish to avoid a long walk from a lot or the exorbitant price of parking on the street. Service was uneven with some personnel super friendly and helpful and others surly and uncooperative.

This hotel is well located in the city of Amsterdam. Check-in was fast and friendly and we were given a map of the cityy which got us off to a flying start. The rooms are small and we swapped ours with our teenage daughter for a larger one with a wet room and separate toilet and wash-hand basin. The beds were clean and comfortable and there was tea/coffee making facilities in the room. There was also tea/coffee available at reception 24/7. We didnt have breakfast in the hotel. If you turn right out the door of the building and go up a couple of premises, there is a wonderful coffee shop called "Over Taart" that serves delicious breakfasts. It is family run and we ordered for two and had ample for three. We were also given a free sample of home-made cake to try. They also do evening meals. To your left when you leave the hotel, round the corner and across the bridge, there is an Irish pub called "Aran" that also does heart breakfasts with a "Cead Mile Failte" thrown in for free! Next to this pub is a bicycle hire shop where you can arrange to go on organised bike tours out into the country. Five doors approx. from the hotel to your right there is another bike hire shop where you can hire bikes also. One of the most exciting finds in the city is "The Beginhof" - it comprises a hidden inner court that dates around 1300 with typical Amsterdam style houses. The Beginhof has a fascinating history with many historical events and even miracles having taken place throughout the centuries. Opening hours are 9-5 pm daily. Artis Zoo is also worth a visit if you run out of things to do.

Espresso Hotel is just 5 minutes from Leidseplein in Central Amsterdam. From Schiphol (AMS) take the 197 Connexxion bus to Leidseplein (€4) and then it's a 5 minute walk to Overtoom where Espresso Hotel is located. Much easier than the train-tram combo or taxi. The hotel is clean, modern and well-appointed. Staff are helpful and friendly. The room are well-sized and bathrooms modern and clean with toilet, hand basin and shower. We had breakfast included in our package and it was good. Boiled eggs, omelets, bacon, sliced cheeses and cold cuts, tomatoes and cucumbers, yogurt, breads, croissants, fruit, juices, tea, coffee machine, etc. Gets a little crowded in the lobby/breakfast room at times (getting down before 9 am helps) and the staff could be more speedy at clearing dirty dishes and wiping down tables. But over all the breakfast experience was good. Check in and out was speedy. Online booking efficient. Plenty of maps and tourism info available and there are lots of good restaurants in the area. We averaged about €120 per night, which was fine for the standard of hotel and its location. You can walk to Dam Square in about 15 minutes or take the 1 Tram (to Central Station) which stops almost outside the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the streets - if you're a light sleeper you'll hear the passing tra...

Managed to book this room online with Travel Republic for £130 for two nights (twin) inc breakfast. Many comparison sites did not offer breakfast otherwise its 13 euro and not worth that price
Fairly central although if you are on a stag do like me and my pal were its quite a trek to the red light district however there is a tram (number 1) which runs regular to that area. If you miss the tram on the way back its a 30 min walk...near impossible if you've been on the magic mushrooms or a safer bet is a 10 euro taxi ride.
Rooms were clean, a little small but adequate. Great shower / bathroom.
Breakfast served till 11 am on a weekend which is great when hungover !
Staff to be fair need to smile a little more and be more attentive of the paying guest but otherwise not a bad hotel.

What a fantastic welcome we received from Veronica on our arrival at the Hotel Espresso, a great start to our 4 day stay in Amsterdam. We got a quiet room on the 4th floor away from the main road, as requested which was much appreciated. Yes, as lots of the reviews had said, the room was very small indeed with only room for one chair ( a standard twin room) but it was immaculately clean as was the bathroom and the beds very comfy. The breakfast was fine with a fair variety of cheeses and hams, breads and yoghurts etc and was taken in the light and airy lobby from where we could watch everyday life go by on the road outside. But the star of the show has to be the fantastic coffee machine that produced an excellent choice of coffees from cappucinos to espressos, plus a box with a wide variety of teas....this was available 24hours a day, a real added bonus. It was just great to have a cuppa whenever we popped back to the hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the location perfect, just a few minutes walk to the Leidseplein and very close to the Museumplein too. I'd go there again anyday!

I was part of a small group that recently stayed a Hotel Espresso. The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum, about a 5-10 walk from Leidseplien (where you can find restaurants/bars), and about a 10 minute tram ride to Dam Square. As others have already written, the rooms are quite small (we stayed in the smallest room, which basically was a bed with enough room to walk around it; no room to place your luggage or to sit and the bathroom was quite small) and we noticed that although the room was cleaned daily, they did not properly clean our sink in the bathroom. On the plus side, the beds are comfortable (they are extremely soft, so if you are looking for a hard bed, I suggest looking elsewhere), free coffee and tea is available all day in the lobby (there is also facilities in the bedroom), and the staff is fairly knowledgeable about the tourist attractions (you can even book some attractions through them, although I suggest getting the Museumkaart). The breakfast was okay, nothing special (salami, cheese, cereal, yoghurt, bread, bacon, omelette, juice and coffee/tea); we only took as we paid an extra €15 total (for a three night stay) when we booked the hotel room. When we booked the room online, I noticed that they had different prices for breakfast and if you waited until your arrived it costs €12 per person per night (although they had an offer for €9), which is not really worth it as a question the quality of the food (I noticed that the yoghurt was from Lidl, a discount supermarket, and so other ingredients were probably from there also). If you are celiac, they provide gluten free bread for breakfast as long as you give them a day’s notice.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in July.
The hotel staff was very helpful, the room was very small ( but we did have a small double room) but the bed was big and very comfortable.
The hotel was very clean :)
And free coffee from the coffee machine whenever you like!
Very good location 5 min walk from bars and restaurants,
Tram right outside the hotel.
Would recommend staying here!
