“"Pleasant surprise"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Very good hotel in it's class. Central location close to the museums and upscale shopping district. Good restaurants and tram nearby. Only a couple of minutes by tram to downtown central. Modern hotel and rooms were comfortable and spotless. Complimentary wifi. Better than average continental breakfast is worth the cost if not included with your room. The only drawback was the overly soft bed and so-so pillows. Also could use an extra outlet in the bathroom for the ladies. Saying that, good value and would stay here again if were to return to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for non-street side of hotel

Very good in its class. Modern building. Rooms are small but adequate, functional, spotless bathroom (no toiletries except soap and shower gel). Windows are not new and are hard to close (you have to lift and then push hard). Wifi worked. Bed fine, pillows not great. Very pleasant breakfast room/lounge with a decent breakfast selection; cooked options not great but there are so many breakfast places in town if you want pancakes et al. Very pleasant staff.
Convenient location 5 mins from the buses and trams in Leidseplein and 5-10 minutes walk to Museumplein. Bus 197 from Schipol goes direct to Leidseplein. Hotel sells discounted tickets to museums, canal rides etc. Before you come check online if museums have timed tickets because the queues are large and the discounted tickets are not timed. For canal rides you have to go to the central office first and exchange your vouchers
Overall this is a good hotel for people who just want a clean, dependable place and a convenient location at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: I rate rooms very good in the 3 star category. Higher up seems a bit quieter and lighter

We were upgraded to a bigger room - we were still in a quite small room after this upgrade so i wouldn't like to be in the even smaller double! There was no fridge (not the end of the world but for what you pay you should have one) and this is more for the ladies but don't rely on the toiletries provided as it is one bottle of dual action shampoo/shower gel which wasn't good quality- staff were friendly. Wifi hit and miss.

lovely small hotel close to the city centre. Take the197 bus direct from the airport, get off at Leidsplein turn right head toward the Marriott Hotel, turn right at Lever Outdoor Sports turn left the hotel is about 200m on the left. a fairly small room, comfy bed, hot shower, almost silent air con, free wifi in the room. We didn't eat breakfast loads available in the centre of Amsterdam. the hotel is really close to the city centre just get your trainers on and walk. Perfect for a few days in the city. Out side the hotel; turn left then first right gorgeous homemade ice cream bar and perfect little late night bar to wind down after the bustle of the city. No complaints at all.

Room Tip: maybe a room at the back of the hotel if you sleep early, the trams don't stop until midnight

Location of Espresso is great close to the Van Gogh museum and Leidseplein. Staff is friendly but not the best, supposed to have free wifi but we didn't get any connection in our room and had to go down to the lobby to use it. Told the staff 3 times about it but nothing happened. Rooms are pretty plain and perfectly normal "hotel style".

We recently stayed at the Hotel Espresso and I give it a definite thumbs up. From the minute we walked in, Veronica the receptionist, was funny, witty and very welcoming. Check in was a breeze and our 3rd floor room was ready and waiting for us upon arrival. We booked a triple for myself, my husband and our daughter and even though the room wasn't huge it was comfortable and welcoming. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the room was very clean and quiet. Our view, which was the facade of the adjacent building, was obviously nothing to brag about but as I said the room was quiet with no street noise accept for the occasional tram which we could hear faintly. It states on the hotel website that toiletries are included but they consisted only of a bottle of hand soap on the wall next to the sink and a bottle of hair and body gel inside the shower. I'm telling you this so that you can prepare and pack what toiletries you might want other than what is provided as I have to have conditioner and body lotion! The breakfast buffet was standard fare, breads, cereal, yougurt, fruit, bacon and eggs but everything was very good and worth the additonal cost. Location....great! The hotel is on a quiet street and about a 10 minute walk from all of the restuarants and shops. The tram is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel which will take you right to central station and all points in between. There is a Domino's Pizza right next door too in case you have the craving! All in all, we had a wonderful stay at the Espresso and would definitely stay there again.

Great hotel 5 mins walk from Liedesplein. The hotel was new, very clean and staff very friendly, lady on reception with brown curly hair was amazing.

Rooms were small but have everything you need and very comfortable.

Location is great, tram 1,2 or 5 from central station.

Didn't have breakfast , lots of places close to have breakfast!

Would definitely stay here again. Great place
