“Good hotel let down by silly things”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We had a five night stay at this hotel - it looks spectacular and the rooms are very clean and modern. The staff were a bit deadpan - we turned up to find the booking company had cancelled our reservation unknown to us but luckily after flashing the cash they had it renewed. So - on to the room - it was great until I realised the double bed was actually two singles stuck together!? That would have been fine but it was actually adorned with 2 single mattresses, single duvets and the cushion like pillows - puzzled!! So as a romantic break for a couple (although we didn't let it get to us) that's not the most romantic thing to be faced with!! Then there is the lovely feature of the glass covered shower in the middle of the room - very cool but a 4* hotel with no dressing gowns or slippers upon exiting said shower....a bit of a let down! The toilet in the corner of the room was nice although the toilet paper was cheap and rough - I must be too spoiled as I buy Andrex at home and would expect a decent toilet tissue in a four star hotel. Every room is adorned with a Senseo coffee machine (I presume) which was great (although my partner would have like some tea - they don't really cater for the British it seems!) then after the second day they never bothered replenishing the coffee pods! These were the silly things that let the Fletcher Hotel down - but apart from that it was a lovely hotel with a great rail connection to the rest of Amsterdam.

We came for our honeymoon (not your typical honeymoon) as we were on a budget. The staff when we arrived seemed like they just couldn't be bothered with another tourist couple. After we told them we were paying in cash on arrival the lady on the front desk decided to try and charge our card 708 euros. The stay was only meant to be £380!! When the card didn't work she then accepted the cash. This was the start of how the hotel meant to go on. The rooms are absolutely beautiful big bed very clean tea/coffee, nice lay out. We had made a note on booking that this was our honeymoon and had asked for champagne to be in the room on arrival (willing to pay obv) but nothing, not even a smile off the reception. After being here for a few days they took our card details and charged our room 300 euros just for asking if we could go upstairs for a meal. So I spent over 2 hours worth of phone calls to the bank at an international rate to be fair the staff were brilliant and I finally had someone who wanted to help and she faxed the bank for me to try and clear the matter up for us. So we went up to the restaurant for a meal on the day all our money had gone from the bank we had no choice as we had been left with nothing, so had to charge it to the room. The bill for 1 course 1 bottle of wine and 3 drinks.....142 euros. My husband complained today to the hotel manager who was lovely to him and understood the fact this had put a stress on our week, she sent up a bottle of wine and gave us a voucher for 2 free drinks at the bar...we came back down to our room and they had put some petals on the bed which was lovely. On another note....it is a crap journey into the city center takes about an hour total but your just with the locals and it felt like everyone was always staring at us on every train and bus as were out in the sticks they must not get many tourists here and I didn't feel safe coming home to late and getting the train and the 10 min walk back in the dark after a few drinks so we didn't, if your here to party here is not the place.Plus there is nothing about other than a kfc and a burger king which was okay for about 3 days, after that theres nothing about just a motorway that you have to cross to get to the fast food and a load of offices there is no shop about even to get a coke etc. if you make the mistake about walking the other side of the train station you will end up in the ghetto. If you want to see the fun side of Amsterdam get a hotel a in the center it is honestly honestly worth it even if the hotel standards are not as high as here.

The hotel was very good but the people of the reception were not friendly. It seemed if they did not like their jobs.
The pillows on the room were terrible, they have to be replaced. The room was very nice and clean. The view was fantasic. The personell of the restaurant were very friendly.

Just returned from my weekend away! Really had such a great time. The hotel was amazing, very clean and modern. The hotel staff were not that friendly but wasn't a huge problem! Bedrooms were a bit different to the norm but made it fun! The bar was great upstairs with nice tables and a good view. Would defiantly go back to Amsterdam! Only real problem was the location as it was a bit out of the main center of Amsterdam. We normally made use of the Metro which is fine but you have to get a taxi to the metro station which was the biggest inconvenience. But all in all was a great hotel and well worth the money!

Room Tip: Make use of the local metro station to get into Amsterdam Central which is called Bijlmer ArenA, its...

Very modern funky hotel. Great concept and great views. I had the same problem as previous contributors with leaking shower door but a towel at the sliding door stopped that. Its a pity the coffee maker had two used bags still in it, this really put me off making coffee as i had no idea how long they had been there.

Now to put right differing views on distance from Amsterdam Centre. A fifteen minute walk up a completely straight road takes you to Holendrecht train station. From here it costs 4 euros and takes 21 minutes to Amsterdam central station. For me this is too far as my wife has knee problems so this should be remembered when planning a stay. It is nowhere near the city centre. Public transport is terrific though.

Hotel had a great rooftop smoking area and wide range of wines at the beautiful bar. Good all round budget hotel of which i would highly recommend but be aware of the distance away from the centre.

On settling my account the hotel had added 10 Euros for shuttle bus for two from hotel to Holendrect which we never used,??.

Lastly Amsterdam is so very expensive, take plenty money. eg. 9 euros a pint, 11 euros a meal etc.

I preferred our day trip to Rotterdam, well worth it.

Room Tip: High level rooms have terrific views

We have just arrived back from a four night stay in the fletcher hotel. First impressions, it's a very lovely building , definitely value for money. The rooms are beautiful, really modern and a novelty to come on holiday to. We had lots of plans for our stay so had to travel around quite a bit. On one occasion planned to use the 'free' shuttle bus to the tram station as we were under the impression from other reviews that it was a fair distance from the hotel. We were disappointed to here that the shuttle bus is 5 euro per person and needs to be requested 2 hours prior to leaving. So we walked and to our surprise we go there in no time, very short distance and an enjoyable walk in the sunshine. After that we had no trouble getting about and the location was not such an issue any more. In regards to food, I feel there should be more advertising within the rooms or just menus of the coffee bar, upstairs bar and restaurant within the hotel rooms as we didn't discover the coffee bar until the day before we left and had no idea they served snacks such as bagels for a reasonable price. If we had known our options we would have spent a lot more money there rather than resorting to eating from the fast food places across the road. The rooftop lounge area for smokers was excellent we spent a lot of time up there as it was all day sunshine and hardly any wind as its sheltered by the glass. Very relaxing. On one occasion there was a massive thunder storm, lots of lightening. we went up to the rooftop before bed and as we were stood there lightening struck the one massive metal pole, it went black and sizzled in the rain. then about 5 minutes later the pole on the other side got struck by lightening and started sizzling. we soon decided it would be safer to sit downstairs during the storm!!
We ordered food from the bar area on two occasions and unfortunately on both occasions our orders came out wrong and on the second occasion it took nearly 40 minutes for 3 bagels to be made and 2 out of 3 were not what we ordered. However when it was out right, the food was lovely and reasonably priced.
One night sat in our room I head quite a loud noise of water running from somewhere. Looked in the bathroom but it sounded like someone above was having a shower. But it went on for a long time so not too sure what that was?
Every night we had a lovely sleep blackout curtains and silence apart from on one occasion where we could hear the base of some loud music coming through the walls and floor.
Overall we had a great trip, the hotel was worth the money we paid for it and would stay there again quite happily.
I must say through rating this hotel it asked me what the pool and spa was like. Not sure if this is applicable to this hotel as I was not aware it had a swimming pool and spa so if it has got these things, very poorly advertised but I'm pretty sure this hotel doesn't have a hotel or spa?
