“Best rooms and B&B in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights and its a great find and easily the best place I have stayed in, in Amsterdam. The rooms were delightful; great bed, beautifully presented, bright, spacious, super-fast wifi, free Nespresso coffee and cotton wool pads (my wife said to mention these!). The bathroom and shower was also brilliant and even had a sauna (not that we used it!).

The owners were great and felt more like old friends - they really couldn't have been any more helpful or accommodating and the explanation they gave of hidden gems to see was priceless. The food was great and as others have said, the pancakes made by the tremendously helpful Kitty, (to be fair Ralph was also amazing) were fabulous.

So all in all amazing place to stay. The only thing I will mention, i think it is only fair to mention as this is a review for travellers, is that it is definitely out of town and does take 15-20 minutes on the Tram to get into the centre of town. That said, Trams are a plenty and they stop very near the B&B. Also, and thinking about it, whilst it does take 20 minutes to get into town, it is very direct and frankly you would probably spend at least 20 minutes walking into to town (or somewhere else) from your more central hotel anyway so in the grand scheme of things, yes we were further out, but overall, probably took us less time to actually get to where we were going than had we stayed more central and walked. You do need to get the Tram though, walking is not possible due to the distance, so if you are out past 12.30pm you'll need to get a c. €20 taxi.

In summary, I would definitely stay here again and then maybe it will actually be like seeing old friends for real!!

Hello Ben
Thank you for the kind words and Kitty says thanks about the "poffertjes".

We are indeed not located in the centre of town, but as you experienced it's quite easy to get into town. Trams stops running around 12.30, but besides a taxi there is another option, the nightbus service. The 24/48 hour GVB public transport cards are also valid for the nightbus, nightbusstop within 5 min walk. The nightbus runs all night, every hour and weekends every half hour.

Regards
Rhalf and Kitty

Me and my husband stayed for 5 days at the B&B Amsterdam West and we can only say good things. The room is very comfortable, very clean and with a amazing view to the canal. The bathroom and toilet were very clean. The breakfast was so good, every day prepared by lovely Kitty. You have to try here dutch pancakes. But what we really loved at most was Ralph and Kitty, they are soooo friendly, we really felt at home. It was a trip not to forget. Thank u very much ralph and kitty, we' ll miss you guys. 5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

We stayed in Bed and Breakfast Amsterdam West in Jan 2014 for 3 days.

The b&b is in a very quiet area, approx 10-15mins tram ride to dam square, it is approx 2mins walk to the tram stop which is a direct route to the centre.

The b&b consists of two rooms, decorated with various bicycles and collectables, we stayed in the left hand room which was large and spacious, the bed is large and comfortable, the room faces out directly onto the canal which is lovely even at night with the lights from the block opposite. The left hand room has a door which opens onto a small deck, although the weather was wet it was lovely to have that view and the very large exotic ducks who pecked at the door to come in!

The breakfast provided at our choice of time was huge, a real big option especially considering it was a b&b in their living area rather than a hotel buffet, they fed us well and explained the trams or places of interest. (They do have a cat, just incase anyone has allergies)

The wc and washing facilities are actually shared between the two rooms, which I knew when booking so I can not mark down on that as they were clean, modern and well kept. There is a separate wc, then in another room with the shower, two sinks and a sauna which can be used any time just need to ask for it to be switched on. In the centre 'hallway' which is the area that the doors to the rooms, wc and showers lead from is a small kitchenette, with kettle, microwave, fridge with fresh water, etc. I did think that the shared facilities would be fine, but if you're anything like me, bare this in mind, it can feel a bit awkward, the doors to the bedrooms are also only frosted, with a curtain, but that's a very European thing, we have seen that many times before. The wifi is extremely fast! If you're travelling with a real tech freak who just can not live without Facebook and net flicks, this is perfect the best wifi we have experienced on holiday! They do not have any TVs in the rooms as there is little signal, so they do offer DVDs and DVD players for you to choose from if needed.

Kitty and Rhalf are lovely people, they will provide you with airport transfers if needed, (they collect you in their little green car) which are a lot cheaper than taxis which can be a bit notorious in Amsterdam, they are very welcoming, helpful happy to help with directions and ask about your interests. If you are looking for a cosy homely experience rather than a hotel, I highly recommend this b&b.

I spent a night here with my girlfriend and it could not have been better. Rhalf and Kitty are some of the nicest proprietors you will ever meet, their house is very comfortable, full of all sorts of great amenities, in a great location near the city center, and overlooking a canal. FANTASTIC.

Also, the house is full of all sorts of unique memorabilia giving it a very personalized feel. Highest recommendation. They only have two rooms, so do your best to get one!

Our stay in B&B Amsterdam West was fantastic! Most of this success is the merit of the B&B owners :) We choosed their B&B on our Europe`s trip on the occasion of ours 20th wedding anniversary. Last time when we were together in 4-stars Amsterdam hotel in the center, we were not so contented as now :) Really! This time, we spent 5 days/4 night hosted by Kitty and Ralph in a very domestic and warm atmosphere. They are friendly, open and helpful in everything we asked for and we could imagine. There were no problem with anything – booking, choosing the room, payment etc. Ralph even proposed us his help in making up some things connected with our stay before we come (e.g. buying us Iamsterdam cards – they were waiting for us and our coming). Besides, R&K gave us many useful informations about Amsterdam, that we didn`t know, what helped us in our discovering this city once more.
The room with the outside doors to the small terrace by the canal was pretty, clean, fragrant and nice. Bathroom, kitchenette, sauna, “all needs tables” – were all very welcoming. The separate doors to the guests rooms are also very comfortable. What else? High speed Wi-Fi, free parking for the car, really good location – the tram stop is just behind the corner (and tram goes 15 minutes to the central station) – it is really not so far from the center!, even on foot. In addition - quite nice surroundings, Amsterdam`s highway ring – close to the B&B, good price, the breakfasts of Kitty are gorgeous, BIG :) and scrummy.
But the best part of our stay there, was a day with the bike tour with Ralph on his Basmans – the most comfortable bicycles we`ve ever ridden! It seemed to be an easy and lazy touristic ride :) But on the waves of our exhilaration with those bikes it came into an evil urban bike game, after that we were already the kings of the A-dam`s roads! I am sure, we will come back here!

Room Tip: Our stay in B&B Amsterdam West was fantastic! Most of this success is the merit of the B&B o...

Rhalf & Kitty are terrific innkeepers who care about their guests and provide very comfortabvle accomodations. Requested airport transportation which was very convenient. Wonderful breakfast every morning. The best poffertjes served in Amsterdam. 24 hour teas/coffee. Convenience of refrigerator and microwave. Very comfortable bed. Location along the canal. Highly recommend their lodging for anyone visiting Amsterdam. Public transportation is very close to this location.

Room Tip: Both rooms are located along the canal.
