We stayed in Bed and Breakfast Amsterdam West in Jan 2014 for 3 days.
The b&b is in a very quiet area, approx 10-15mins tram ride to dam square, it is approx 2mins walk to the tram stop which is a direct route to the centre.
The b&b consists of two rooms, decorated with various bicycles and collectables, we stayed in the left hand room which was large and spacious, the bed is large and comfortable, the room faces out directly onto the canal which is lovely even at night with the lights from the block opposite. The left hand room has a door which opens onto a small deck, although the weather was wet it was lovely to have that view and the very large exotic ducks who pecked at the door to come in!
The breakfast provided at our choice of time was huge, a real big option especially considering it was a b&b in their living area rather than a hotel buffet, they fed us well and explained the trams or places of interest. (They do have a cat, just incase anyone has allergies)
The wc and washing facilities are actually shared between the two rooms, which I knew when booking so I can not mark down on that as they were clean, modern and well kept. There is a separate wc, then in another room with the shower, two sinks and a sauna which can be used any time just need to ask for it to be switched on. In the centre 'hallway' which is the area that the doors to the rooms, wc and showers lead from is a small kitchenette, with kettle, microwave, fridge with fresh water, etc. I did think that the shared facilities would be fine, but if you're anything like me, bare this in mind, it can feel a bit awkward, the doors to the bedrooms are also only frosted, with a curtain, but that's a very European thing, we have seen that many times before. The wifi is extremely fast! If you're travelling with a real tech freak who just can not live without Facebook and net flicks, this is perfect the best wifi we have experienced on holiday! They do not have any TVs in the rooms as there is little signal, so they do offer DVDs and DVD players for you to choose from if needed.
Kitty and Rhalf are lovely people, they will provide you with airport transfers if needed, (they collect you in their little green car) which are a lot cheaper than taxis which can be a bit notorious in Amsterdam, they are very welcoming, helpful happy to help with directions and ask about your interests. If you are looking for a cosy homely experience rather than a hotel, I highly recommend this b&b.
