“Impeccable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014

We arrived in Amsterdam for work and stayed at Sir Albert a total of four nights, five days. We enjoyed every minute of it. The room was creatively designed, the bed was so comfy we never showed up to our meetings on time, and the sheets and toiletries and the other perks in our room belonged to a jet setter's mansion. The breakfast was fresh and elegant (don't miss their restaurant, Izakaya. To die for!) and we had a very pleasant reading time by the fireplace. The hotel is situated on a charming street with designers shops and cool eateries. But all this wasn't really the highlight. The service! Oh the service! We usually travel comfortably but this was truly First Class feel. They personally show you to your room, ask you "how are you this morning" and are really interested in hearing you, and if you're in need- they'll immediately come up to your room with a bowl of rice to rescue your iPhone that fell to the toilet... Impeccable. Totally IT.

This was not our first stay at a boutique hotel but Sir Albert was an delightful choice. The bed offered oustanding comfort. From check in to check out we were extremely pleased with the service. We were greeted with a warms smile and cool drinks. Then personally escorted to our room to make sure everything was explained and available. The hotel and restaurant attached, is located in a new and up and coming neighborhood, away from the touristy areas. You get to mingle with the locals. Since the restaurant is Japanese it is very trendy and difficult to get in, even for a guest of the hotel so make sure to have reservations prior to arrival. We were there over a weekend so every seat was taken (even at the bar) late into the evening.

Room Tip: Make reservations for the Japanese restaurant ahead of time.

Knew the room would be small, but didn't realise there would be no bathroom - the toilet and the shower are in cupboards effectively. Not such a big deal perhaps, but the photos on the web site didn't reveal that level of detail, which to me seems wrong. Plus point: the bed was really comfy. Minus Points: the room is fitted with high tech gadgetry that isn't very high tech (the lights are basically all on or all off, except the reading lights) but the worst thing its the bright led light pollution from all the gadgetry, which means the room is not dark at night when you want to sleep. Nowhere near dark in fact. I didn't really like the whole "you have to sign over E100 from your credit card in case you break anything" touch either. Give me a room where there is nothing I can easily break instead please :-/

Dear Mattwhu66,

Sir Albert wants to thank you for taking the time to write about your stay at his Private Mansion.

He sincerely regrets that he could not meet all your expectations and will certainly have the maintenance team look into and further address your concerns.

We are happy that you have enjoyed the other facilities of the hotel and would be very grateful if you could give us another chance to fully meet your expectations.

Warm regards,

All positive….
Location: Very good - Canal side & south of main city centre but still walkable or 5 minutes on the tram that is a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. There are several bars & restaurants close by & within walking distant (do try the Oolong Oriental – excellent). Hotel is also very close to the museum district – again approx. a 10 minute scenic walk.
Rooms: Modern & extremely comfortable (bed was divine) although ours was a little on the small size (they do differ – we travelled with friends some of whom had much larger rooms), however this did not cause us an issue – it was fine for 2.
Hotel overall: Staff were very efficient & most welcoming (Prosecco on arrival whilst we waited to be checked in as we were a group of 12) … nothing was too much trouble (such as printing boarding passes, advising on local area). Bar area is lovely.
Would fully recommend using the Sir Albert as base to stay when in Amsterdam.

I was recently in Amsterdam for a business meeting on a Friday this July and decided to extend the visit over the weekend, taking my wife and visit some museums galleries and see the city.
The hotel was nice for both needs. The room is og god size, the bed is large and the mattress very comfortable. The staff is very pleasant and happy to assist. The restaurant is one the nicest int Amsterdam I was told. I do not know if it is one of the nicest, surely is very good!

I booked a 3 night mid week break for my partner's birthday through Secret Escapes, after which I looked at Trip Advisor reviews and was concerned that the room would be on the small side. It wasn't. I was pleasantly surprised by the room size and unusual layout, which worked - sink unit in bedroom, separate toilet and shower. Radio and i-pad dock provided in room, extensive mini bar and food basket both reasonably priced.

Rooms cleaned daily and very clean but under the bed could do with a good dust. Exceedingly comfy bed and personal touches - we had quotes on printed post-it notes left on our mirror and and card, book, keyring and balloon bouquet left in the room for my boyfriend on his birthday. We both appreciated this.

I requested a room on the top floor at the back of the hotel after reviews rooms can be noisy - we were on the second floor and didn't hear a peep through our stay.

On arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and a glass of Prosecco whilst we booked in. Our bags were taken to our room and we were shown around and provided with a map. The front of house staff were exceedingly helpful throughout our short stay, looking up best routes on public transport, advising us of the best places to go and see and booking tickets online on our behalf.

We didn't have opportunity to eat in the hotel restaurant but it was fully booked and buzzing every night (Tues - Fri). There are a number of good, small restaurants opposite the hotel - we ate in the Italian on our first evening which was ok for a quick late bite.

Good location close to museum quarter, tram stop to centre outside hotel took 10 minutes on tram to central station. Trams every 6 minutes.

Great hotel, would stay again and recommend to anyone - maybe not good for families with young children.

Room Tip: Higher floor at back of hotel quiet
