“Contemporary and slick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

Great location - situation on one of the prettiest canals in Amsterdam. You can walk anywhere in central Amsterdam from here - so definitely five stars for location.
Lobby and bar - very cool, spacious, with a bar area and a seating area. Very comfortable chairs and sofas - again facing the canal with masses of light through floor to ceiling windows. Service excellent
Rooms - I think you either like them or hate them. No showers, a bit of a bummer if you like baths - which I do, the basin is in the room next to the bed which after the shock of the new had worn off - rather started to annoy me mainly because it was impossible to avoid water dripping all over the floor. And the location of the basin and the dressing table was just plain annoying. But the bed was comfortable.
The canal rooms are really the only ones worth getting - there is masses of natural light, a huge chair in which you can sip and watch the world go by. The mini bar is free apart from the booze which you have to pay for and there is a great coffee machine. More inter connectively than you could ever wish for.
Front desk and service - it's all very efficient, and slick. IPads to check you , done in an instant and without fuss.

There is no question it all works but somehow there is just a little something missing - I think it might be the personal touch -
If you don't care for that and you just want something that works well - then this is for you. I didn't not like it but there was something about the stay that didn't make me go wow gotta get back here. It's that elusive something that makes a really great hotel one that you want to come back to.

We stayed there last month, our room was not ready when we arrived, so we had breakfast. The breakfast is good there. The service is excellent. This hotel is close to many tourist attractions such as the Anne Frank house, the museum area, the 9 streets, the flower market. There are some good restaurants within 10 minutes walk. The staff is very helpful as far as helping make reservations, telling you about local markets and stores. They are very smart and remember where you went and ask for your feedback so they can keep up with how places are. I had stayed there when it first opened they have definitely ironed out the kinks. If in Amsterdam again I would most definitely stay there again. They serve wine in the library from 5-7, the wine is okay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the canal if possible they do book fast though. The bar and the librar...

This hotel sets a new standard for hospitality! From the minute you arrive the people at check in helped bring in there bags, settled you on couches to check you in on their tablets while we had a cup of tea. They would ask how your day was when you came back, getting you at the front door like you were distant relatives staying there. They even called us by name! For a Hyatt, this was such a great experience. The rooms are very modem as they have renovated this old library just six month s ago. Free sodas and water as well as snacks in the mini bar, enormous bath sheets to dry off with, and an amazing setup for coffee/tea in the room.

Room Tip: If you want to walk to everything there is to see on Amsterdam, this had the best location, cleanlin...

Spent a lovely weekend at the Andaz in March 2014. Fantastic location, amazingly furnished, and superb staff. The service was impeccable from the streamlined check-in, to the attention to detail by housekeeping.
The gardens were fabulous, with an eccentric design which worked well.
A must stay when visiting Amsterdam. I will not consider staying anywhere else.

Nice modern hotel with a great staff. Hotel check in / out was fast and easy.

Room was average size, very clean and new. The room included a iPod dock clock and a nepresso machine which was a welcomed bonus. The items in the mini bar are included with the room rate, except the alcohol, another bonus.

The bathroom had a fantastic shower with a separate sink/vanity in the middle of the room with huge mirror. A unique room design.

The internet worked very well

Went for a weekend break.

We arrived, check in very simple PERFECT!

We got to room, we use Andaz alot as my wife has big corporate account with them so it normally very convienent.
We had a nice view looking over the canal. Not a massive room but ok for a short stay. All modern clean etc.
I didnt like the room, but that was my choice. The sink is in the middle of the dressing area, there is no bath and my wife loves to have a bath. Nice shower. Toilet just a boxed in cupboard in the room. But all ok just to sleep in. Bed was very nice.
We got up had breakfast and the service was slow and a little confusing. Was told new member of staff. Ok fine they offered us a breakfast on the house after about a 45 minute wait plus no tea or coffee and then food come up wrong. So a good gesture. They also gave us the bill before our food or drink had even come, all very messy. The manger came over she was very pleasent, we did say we was having dinner. She assured all would be fine and she would personally look after us.
So went to dinner, pre drinks all very nice in bar. Yes the service was ok, but we didnt see the manager mmm. oK the food was nice and the sevice was ok to be honest.
We had a Spa treatment, that was ok nice chill out area.
Just felt the location was perfect. just the room for me was not that great and the staff lacked that little something, except the reception staff they where very good.

Room Tip: Get a canel room. We was in 415 and had a great sunset

Andaz Amsterdam was expensive and pretty much worth it. I paid 325 Euro a night for two nights in late March, 2014. I suggest a look at the pictures on TripAdvisor or on the hotel web site – they catch the flavor of the place very well.

Room/bathroom

This is a super-high-end design hotel. Often in places like this, function is sacrificed to form. There was only a little of that here. Everything in the room was super-functional:

• A power outlet with US plug adapter already installed (an amazing luxury!).
• A working clock-radio with iPod dock and remote
• Big flat screen TV
• Room-darkening shades
• Lit makeup mirror
• Chic but functional wash-basin – in the middle of the room!
• Waterfall shower – very nice!
• Free healthy minibar items (all but alcohol)
• Comfortable bed with reading lights
• A button (not a door-hanger) to say “do not disturb.”

The fact that everything functioned so well made the design aspects (e.g. the huge fish image on the wall) look better to me.

Location/setting
Andaz is in the glorious canal area of Amsterdam. I was able to walk everywhere. The canal-view room was just delightful.

Bar and restaurant
I had red wine with a client in the lobby bar. Service was prompt, wine list was good, we both enjoyed our wine. I had dessert in the restaurant. Service was excellent again.

Lobby area
The lobby is super-hip but still functional. Round tables instead of the traditional desk are a nice touch.

Gym/sauna
Gym was functional and reasonably equipped. Sauna and spa look beautiful.

General notes about stay
Despite Hyatt “platinum” status and fairly high room rate, I was initially assigned to an interior room facing the neon-lit lobby. This would have been way too dark for me, verging on depressing. I need natural light. The hotel was not full and the manager provided a room switch (which she called an “upgrade”). Be aware when booking that if you do not pay for a canal-view or garden-view room, you may be facing the lobby.

I would visit this hotel again. It had everything I needed. The Hyatt affiliation (and the ability to earn and use Hyatt points) felt like a bonus.

Room Tip: Avoid lobby-facing rooms.
