“Nice location to explore Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Nice modern hotel with a great staff. Hotel check in / out was fast and easy.

Room was average size, very clean and new. The room included a iPod dock clock and a nepresso machine which was a welcomed bonus. The items in the mini bar are included with the room rate, except the alcohol, another bonus.

The bathroom had a fantastic shower with a separate sink/vanity in the middle of the room with huge mirror. A unique room design.

The internet worked very well

Went for a weekend break.

We arrived, check in very simple PERFECT!

We got to room, we use Andaz alot as my wife has big corporate account with them so it normally very convienent.
We had a nice view looking over the canal. Not a massive room but ok for a short stay. All modern clean etc.
I didnt like the room, but that was my choice. The sink is in the middle of the dressing area, there is no bath and my wife loves to have a bath. Nice shower. Toilet just a boxed in cupboard in the room. But all ok just to sleep in. Bed was very nice.
We got up had breakfast and the service was slow and a little confusing. Was told new member of staff. Ok fine they offered us a breakfast on the house after about a 45 minute wait plus no tea or coffee and then food come up wrong. So a good gesture. They also gave us the bill before our food or drink had even come, all very messy. The manger came over she was very pleasent, we did say we was having dinner. She assured all would be fine and she would personally look after us.
So went to dinner, pre drinks all very nice in bar. Yes the service was ok, but we didnt see the manager mmm. oK the food was nice and the sevice was ok to be honest.
We had a Spa treatment, that was ok nice chill out area.
Just felt the location was perfect. just the room for me was not that great and the staff lacked that little something, except the reception staff they where very good.

Room Tip: Get a canel room. We was in 415 and had a great sunset

Andaz Amsterdam was expensive and pretty much worth it. I paid 325 Euro a night for two nights in late March, 2014. I suggest a look at the pictures on TripAdvisor or on the hotel web site – they catch the flavor of the place very well.

Room/bathroom

This is a super-high-end design hotel. Often in places like this, function is sacrificed to form. There was only a little of that here. Everything in the room was super-functional:

• A power outlet with US plug adapter already installed (an amazing luxury!).
• A working clock-radio with iPod dock and remote
• Big flat screen TV
• Room-darkening shades
• Lit makeup mirror
• Chic but functional wash-basin – in the middle of the room!
• Waterfall shower – very nice!
• Free healthy minibar items (all but alcohol)
• Comfortable bed with reading lights
• A button (not a door-hanger) to say “do not disturb.”

The fact that everything functioned so well made the design aspects (e.g. the huge fish image on the wall) look better to me.

Location/setting
Andaz is in the glorious canal area of Amsterdam. I was able to walk everywhere. The canal-view room was just delightful.

Bar and restaurant
I had red wine with a client in the lobby bar. Service was prompt, wine list was good, we both enjoyed our wine. I had dessert in the restaurant. Service was excellent again.

Lobby area
The lobby is super-hip but still functional. Round tables instead of the traditional desk are a nice touch.

Gym/sauna
Gym was functional and reasonably equipped. Sauna and spa look beautiful.

General notes about stay
Despite Hyatt “platinum” status and fairly high room rate, I was initially assigned to an interior room facing the neon-lit lobby. This would have been way too dark for me, verging on depressing. I need natural light. The hotel was not full and the manager provided a room switch (which she called an “upgrade”). Be aware when booking that if you do not pay for a canal-view or garden-view room, you may be facing the lobby.

I would visit this hotel again. It had everything I needed. The Hyatt affiliation (and the ability to earn and use Hyatt points) felt like a bonus.

Room Tip: Avoid lobby-facing rooms.

We stayed at the Andaz for four-nights and departed with much appreciation for the entire team who worked at the hotel and for the building. The collegiality among the staff was evident at every interaction and their attention to making sure we enjoyed our time in the city was constant. The reception team was responsive to our questions and offered brilliant recommendations. Each morning we had breakfast at the hotel and were warmly greeted and served by the restaurant team. The layout of the hotel (renovated from the old city library) is creative, very stylish (the designer's work is on exhibit at the modern museum), and memorable. The rooms are modern in design and functional. There is very unique fitness area between the two buildings that comprise the hotel. The location of the hotel is within walking distance for almost every sightseeing activity. Running from the hotel to the Vondelpark or to Amstel Park is very convenient. When we return to Amsterdam we would stay with enthusiasm at the Andaz.

Room Tip: The garden/courtyard view was excellent and provided plenty of daylight.

If we were to go to Amsterdam again we would definitely stay at the Andaz. A beautiful hotel, very clean all over. The staff are probably the friendliest I've ever met in any hotel I've stayed in before, and couldn't be more helpful. We arrived early so our room wasn't ready, but they took our bags and made us a cup of coffee - and it was nice coffee! We had a lovely room with everything you needed. We had breakfast on the three mornings we were there, there was plenty to chose from, if you wanted a cooked breakfast it was made in the open plan kitchen so you could watch it being prepared. Again the staff were friendly and very attentive. We had one evening meal in the restaurant which was perfect. In the afternoon we would sit in the small lounge and enjoy snacks/coffee/soft drinks/wine which you helped yourself to at no extra charge (I think it is from 4pm to 7pm) we went at 6pm.

The hotel was a short walk from the main shopping area - turn left and two bridges down. There was also a nice square close by with restaurants/pubs to sit in or outside of in the evening. If you turned right out of the hotel you can find the shopping area they call the 'nine streets' full of little shops to browse around.

We had a trip on a canal boat, and we enjoyed listening to the commentary on the places we passed by. We did the 'hop on hop off' boat, and hopped off at Anne Frank's House. I was very moved by the story of these two families living there. If you go take the time to read and listen to the commentaries. Very moving.

We went to China Town one evening for a meal, but not too impressed and ended up back in the square not far from the hotel.

Room Tip: Watch out for bicycles. LOL

Wonderful from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by name and immediately given orange juice and muffins which were very welcome after a long overseas flight. A room was available and we could. check in early which we really appreciated as it allowed a nap before starting out to explore. This hotel is very customer oriented from the complimentary muffins and coffee in the morning in the library to the afternoon wine in the library and bottled water and snacks in the room. The check in people who are located by the front door, all function as concierges and are very happy to help with anything you need including directions and restaurant reservations. Whenever we stopped to ask for directions, we we're given a map with directions and offered bottled water to take along. We were staying on points, so we were given an interior room and that was fine. It was quiet and very clean. the hotel has a funky euro vibe. The sink is in the middle of the room and has good counter space for your essentials and the shower stands alone at the front of the room. The room has the basic toiletries and very nice terry robes. We were celebrating our anniversary and they sent up a bottle of prosecco and roses! The breakfast buffet was good with an option for just cold items or adding hot items as well. The kitchen is open air and you actually walk through it to help yourself to part of the breakfast. Of course the servers there were especially nice. Tonight is our last night and we don't want to leave. Stay here,,,you will feel most welcome and enjoy the great location. We walked everywhere and nothing was to far. We hope to return!

Stayed here in early March on a 2 night award stay.

I was upgraded from a standard queen room to a large garden room which was fantastic.
Fast check-in and check out and the area is great for peace and quiet. Room service was great for those times when I didn't feel like going out, though a bit pricey (as all room service usually is).
The only complaint I had was billing issue which was resolved promptly by a manager who emailed me after I brought up the issue.

Overall, a nice place to stay and would come back again
