“Great customer service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

I spent four days here on a business trip and while the location and rooms are very good. The standout features are the food and high quality staff. I would say that the standards of service and the overall friendliness of the staff was some of the best I have experienced on my travels. At all levels they were attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and very very efficient with a personalized touch at all times. Highly recommended and will be staying there for forthcoming personal and business stays.

We spent 2 nights at the Andaz and we loved it .. Very stylish interior by a famous artist but also very comfortable rooms. We enjoyed the bar and restaurant super food but best of all was the quality of all of the staff .. Very responsive to customer's needs .. And no silly false "have a nice day" rubbish .. Just focused customer care .

The hotel is also in a great position to walk the city and our room overlooked the canal . Thank you Andaz for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay to celebrate our 60th birthday .

From the moment I read an Andaz was opening in Amsterdam, I knew that was where I wanted to stay; and I wasn't disappointed! My stay was in April, 2013 and I apologize for the late review (thought I had already written one.)

First, all the employees are wonderful. From the email exchanges before our trip, the check in, housekeeping, foodservice staff; all the employees are friendly, knowledgable of the area and helpful. My husband was suffering from a bad back and housekeeping brought extra bedding, pillows and ice, anything we could think of that could help. The front desk sent up a doctor; everyone was so helpful and concerned. The front desk staff, whom act as the concierge as well, recommended some great restaurants in the area and were very helpful with suggestions for making our stay memorable.

The building is beautiful! Hip trendy lobby, beautiful fixtures, open bar area great for relaxing. Nice restaurant area, lovely courtyard. I love their open concept for checking in. It's more relaxing than standing in line and there was a civility to the process that worked. What I love most about the Andaz brand is they don't club you for extras; Nespresso machine in room, free snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in the mini bar, nightly wine hours and Wi-Fi. I wish all hotels would realize the good will of giving away a few bags of chips and a glass of wine!

We had a canal view room. It was small, but it was well appointed and offered everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the pillows heavenly. There really is wallpaper in the toilet room full of fun Amsterdam facts to read; so quirky and genius!

The location is perfect for exploring all Amsterdam has to offer. There are a lot of restaurants, museums, squares and shopping all within walking distance of the Andaz. I would recommend this hotel over all the other choices simply based on the friendliness of their employees!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a canal view room because hey, it's Amsterdam and it's all about the canals!

Awesome location and architecture.
Very chic rooms and friendly staff.
Great design of the open kitchen in the main restaurant - making one feel at comfort.
Handy access to the city's key attractions is sure an advantage
Highly recommend!

The Andaz Amsterdam is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. It is really well located in a lovely neighbourhood. The staff were very friendly and made us very welcome. The rooms were beautifully appointed and well decorated. I loved the wallpaper in the loo that had facts about Amsterdam! The bed was incredibly comfortable.

The free mini-bar and drinks in the library made it feel as though we were getting value for money, unlike other hotels of a similar level of luxury where you feel as though you are spending extra whenever you turn around. This hotel really felt boutique.

The Andaz is a must see and if you can afford it a must stay in Amsterdam. Breathtaking contemporary design in an old building that used to be the public library. Very friendly staff makes an effort - thank you Jairo for such a warm welcome! The rooms are small but very well designed. we had one overlooking Prinsengracht. A big fish on wallpaper watched over our sleep and it is fun to discover all the details in your room. Or in the bar, the restaurants and the library. The open kitchen in the main restaurant makes you feel as if you are helping the chef prepare your meal. drinks, food and wine made us want to stay much longer than just for a weekend. we will be back for sure!

One detail that was irritating. The sauna - again beautifully designed creating a very relaxing atmosphere - is tiny and when I went there we were five guests and that is too much. The plumbing needs attention and the soap dispensers soap :-)

But I would love to stay longer and come back to this sauna any time!

Room Tip: Spend the extra Euro and take a room overlooking Prinsengracht

We chose this hotel because of its central location, probably no more than 10 minutes walk from any main attraction in this very civilised city.

Apart from witnessing an attempted bag snatch from a motor scooter (the victim held on to her bag) a few yards from the hotel, the city remained civilised to us. And the hotel enhanced our stay.

The service is perfect - attentive but unobtrusive. The check-in, where there are no traditional "us and them" desks, have little tables where you chat to a clerk with a laptop. Very informal and welcoming. Above the tables are the famous "Lady Gaga" style lighting rigs.

Guests enjoy free drinks and snacks in the drawing room - more signs of civilisation.

The guest rooms - accessed through corridors which have art installations - are offbeat, with interesting decoration and a wash basin in the middle of the room. A very useful feature is the mini-library of local literature. Just be careful not (accidentally) to walk away with one of the books. This will cost you 35 euros. The room lighting is quirky but once learnt, effective.

Breakfast was perfect. We found the dinner menu limited but we explore restaurants anyway.

All in all, a very positive experience. We tend not to revisit hotels - but this could be under review now.

Room Tip: Some say a canal view is best, but you can see a lot of canals in Amsterdam anytime.

Dear Chris K,
Thank you for your very kind and detailed review. I am sorry that you had to witness the situation with the scooter but luckily the lady courageously held on to her bag! Amsterdam is in general a very safe and civilized city.
I am glad that you reconsider your 'stay policy' and I am hoping to welcome you back soon.
