Don't be put off from the outside of the hotel. When we walked to the hotel we wondered what we had let ourselves in for. It's not attractive from the outside at all, and is near a cross roads off a large road. However, once you walk in to the hotel you'd think you are in a posh city centre location. The hotel is decorated in a modern style. The rooms are lovely, with a coffee machine and one of the best bathrooms I've seen in a hotel for a while! Massive shower, massive sink and underfloor heating!
We only stayed for one night but would be happy to stay for longer. We didn't eat in the restaurant or have breakfast as we were having a city break on a budget.
You can buy travel cards from the front desk which can be used for transport across the city. The nearest tram stop is just across the road from the hotel, and it goes right into the city centre.
The hotel will look after your bags once you check out, if your flight is not until the evening.

I would recommend this hotel to other travellers....a brilliant find in Amsterdam.

Nice, spacious room, immaculately clean and complete with a nespresso coffee machine (mmm) and free wifi. Really impressed with the service - the reception staff in particular were lovely and very helpful! It is a bit out of the city centre, but the tram is only a couple of minutes walk away, the train 6 minutes and a cab to the centre cost around €15. Highly recommended!

Whilst this hotel is not in the centre of Amsterdam, it is well located and easily accessible. Tram 12 is useful for the most museum such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gough Museum. Regrettably there is no direct tram to the central station but Sloterdijk station is about a 5-8 minute walk away with trains every few minutes taking about 10 minutes to Central Station. Basically upon exit of the main entrance, turn left and go under the A10 bridge, then take the first right once under the bridge, walk to the end of the street and turn left where you should see some steps to the concourse on the right hand side. If you do not have a maestro credit card you can only use coins on the self - service ticket machine at the station. You can use notes at the ticket office however a supplement of 50 cents is applied on a per ticket basis.
Those who intend to sightsee at the left of the reception desk there is a stand with little cards with discounts and free gifts which is useful. There are tours available from the hotel to Dutch cities and Belgian which can be booked at reception up to 10pm the night before subject to availability. The Countryside tour (Volendam, Marken and Zaanse Schans) was an interesting and fun tour and we would have probably not have been to these locations without being on this tour.
Our triple room was located on the corner of the top floor. I am pleased this Golden Tulip has rooms for three and four persons as this is under catered for in hotels. The room had three full size proper single beds rather than a rollaway bed for the third person. The room had a good level of cleanliness and the furniture had no noticeable wear (which should be expected for a hotel which has recently opened). The room was of a modern style with a 80s twist which has been tastefully chosen. One minor design fault is the curtain did not go right across the window which was slightly irritating but could easily be resolved by the hotel if they put a Velcro fastener onto the wall and the curtain. The bathroom has been designed to a high standard with slate floor and wall tiles which is very effective. Villeroy and boch features in the bathroom, crockery and cutlery which gives the impression the hotel aims for a high standard. Only a shower in the bathroom however this is large with a ceiling and side shower which had a good level of pressure and warmth. Towels are only replaced if put on the floor in order to be environmentally friendly. There was no noise even with the windows open on the seventh floor.
There was a hospitality tray which is not always present on the continent provided with a Nesspresso machine which also provided hot water for tea infusions. The choices of tea provided where somewhat unusual and English breakfast was not always provided but available upon request, it would be nice to provide biscuits with the hospitality tray. I think it is a good idea for the mini bar to be like a vending machine so there is no confusion in regard to whether you have had something from the minibar but it does limit usage for your own refrigeration needs.
I would advise you to have a breakfast package as it will be more cost effective than paying for it at the time. The breakfast was a huge buffet with a full English breakfast and Continental breakfast with omelettes and fried eggs available on demand. It impressed me that there was an orange juicer machine for guests to use which of course meant freshly squeezed orange juice was available and is a superb addition to the breakfast not commonly found in other hotels. It was nice that the Dinner buffet was reduced by €5 to €24.95 per person for hotel guests (I do not know whether this is on going or a limited offer), from what I saw most guests took advantage of that offer and I would have only dined in the restaurant with that offer which I did all 5 evenings! The dinner buffet offers a comprehensive selection with Japanese food, meat steaks and fish grilled on demand and international dishes such as beef stew, sweet and sour and lasagne. In addition to main courses there were chips, wedges, salad and vegetables as a side dish. An impressive selection of desserts was available with a chocolate fountain, cheesecake, profiteroles, fruit selection, cream, ice cream and pancakes available to order. It was also great that you could help yourself to soft drinks in the fridge, freshly squeezed orange juice and water as part of the package. As other reviews and a member of staff have said other than the hotel’s restaurant you really have to go down town for a restaurant, the only option being a local Chinese restaurant.
There was a lounge area with a copy of the International Herald Tribune and computers and a printer hiding in the door to the left all of which usage is free of charge to guests. It was good there was free WIFI that was reasonably quick. The staff were helpful and courteous throughout our stay. Check in and out were both smoothly executed.
In conclusion, I would highly rate this hotel for anyone who wishes to stay in Amsterdam especially if you like being away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the locality is a well-kept part of the city. Everything was at least as expected with some aspects exceeding expectations. If I came back to this region I would stay here again and will recommend.

This hotel is an excellent combination of facilities, value and location. To stay in an equivalent hotel in the centre of Amsterdam would probably cost twice as much, yet the reality is that the Golden Tulip is just a 5-minute walk from Sloterdijk Station, which is itself just a 5-minute train journey from Schiphol and a further 5-10 minute train journey to Amsterdam Centraal. This is even more convenient in real life than it seems on paper. The train to and from the airport and into the city centre is around €2 to €3.

Some reviewers have said there's not much in the Sloterdijk area around the hotel in the way of attractions and whilst that's true, Sloterdijk Station itself has some good facilities such as Starbucks and a few food places so if you don't want to eat in the hotel but you don't want to take a journey into the city centre either, you can always get a quick snack at Sloterdijk Station.

Overall - great value.

We were supposed to be at this property for 3 nights after our cruise but we got very sick on board ship and changed our airline tickets home. I do understand the reason for a cancellation policy however charging 399 Euro cancellation fee when the entire 3 days was 657 Euro was outrageous!

I hope you are well now and I am sorry you were not able to stay with us. When a reservation is a no show or not cancelled in time, we charge the first night. Unfortunately your first night was during the biggest congress in Amsterdam and the price of a room was extremly hight, 399 euro. That explains the charge, which, you are right about that, is very high.

This hotel has many positive aspects that make it one of my favorite hotels I've been to in Europe. Pros include newly renovated rooms. Our room, 232, was very large. Similar in size to hotel rooms in America, a rarity in Europe. Modern decor and I loved the frameless shower stall with rain shower. Very relaxing, refreshing and a great way to start or end your busy day of sightseeing in Amsterdam. Wi-Fi is free. Fifteen minute ride to city center on Tram #12. Tram stop is steps away from hotel entrance. They have onsite underground parking but I did not use it and therefore cannot comment on it. The breakfast is outstanding!
Cons: Slow WiFi in rooms. No onsite gym but you can go to a nearbyprivate gym (Fitness4me) and pay ?0 for a day pass. No pool.

When we arrived via KLM about 8AM in the hotel, the front desk personnel checked us in with our information and payment arrangements; however, they were apologetic to us they could not let us check in our assigned rooms, which we understand. We proceeded with our plans to go to Central Amsterdam and enjoy the sights. We left our luggage in their storage. Upon our return to the hotel after an enjoyable day exploring Amsterdam, our rooms were ready and we were given the keys. Our luggage were safe and there was no evidence of foul play. However, when we entered the room, to our surprise, we were given a small room on the 2nd floor that was just a little bigger than a walk-in closet. I spoke to the front desk personnel immediately and expressed my dissatisfaction, so they apologized and promised to transfer us to a bigger room on the 6th floor for the following day. Sure enough, since there were people checking out that day, they came through with their promise and moved us to a room that was two and half times bigger than our previous one. The rooms are clean and the bathroom is immaculate. Their buffet breakfast was excellent. We've traveled to several countries in Europe and stayed in equal number of hotels and by far, this hotel had the best breakfast with its hot and cold variety of breakfast items. The only drawback is this hotel is about a 20-min. and 2 tram ride to Central Amsterdam but if you don't mind a little sight seeing along the way, then this hotel is worth it. The tram stop is in front of the hotel, just crossing the street. The general area of the hotel is generally residential so it was quite safe to walk around even late at night and it was quiet. However, it was too quiet and far from the madding crowd that the restaurant district is a tram ride away. Be that as it may, we purchased multi-day tram passes that did not hurt our budget. The staff are also generally helpful, few were more helpful and pleasant than others. Despite this, the value of this hotel is excellent as its price compared to the other hotels closer to Central Amsterdam is very reasonable and affordable. I will not hesitate to check-in at Golden Tulip Amsterdam West during our next visit to amazing Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the higher floors because they are more spacious!
