Went to the Grand for a long weekend in February courtesy of my children. Nice clean hotel and very quiet. Rooms are not large and even the Penthouse which we had was not very big. the room was nicely decorated with a good sized bathroom. The penthouse looks out over the city centre and has a large balcony area used by 3 penthouse occupiers. There is no privacy from the other occupiers which is a shame. When we were there the hotel did not appear to be busy so it was lovely and quiet. The breakfast is expensive, we were offered it for 11 1/2 Euros each!! We found other places to have breakfast at a far more reasonable price. To get to the busier parts of Amsterdam you have to walk about 800 yards and get the No1 tram. They run every 7 minutes during the week. This tram basically takes you to the majority of shops / sightseeing you will want over a long weekend or you can walk, it is not really that far. There are a number of good restaurants nearby but because they tend to be small it is advisable to get their early. We went to the Thai nearby and Café Bosco over the road from the hotel and both were good value. Recommended if you do not want to be right in the centre
