Description: Tia Rosa is a restaurant located at Reguliersgracht, one of the most beautiful canals of Amsterdam. A place where the free atmosphere of Amsterdam is combined with Spanish charm. Here you are very welcome to get acquainted with the typical Spanish cuisine, a wide range of tapas, and an exquisite selection of wines. Tia Rosa has an authentic Spanish ambience, complete with a beautiful wooden bar, Spanish mosaic, wine barrels, and an open kitchen. You can order several different tapas and enjoy them standing at the bar while drinking a good glass of beer or wine. If you would rather enjoy a full diner experience, then we welcome you into our cosy restaurant or on our lovely little terrace. Tia Rosa is housed in what used to be two identical warehouses called 'De Zon en De Maan', the Sun and Moon, two beautiful now fully restored buildings from the 17th century. That way Tia Rosa is a small piece of Spain located in the middle of the famous Amsterdam canals.

I've eaten here several times and it's been generally ok...enough to repeat the visit with a group of colleagues last week for an 'occasion'. We took the easy option "chef's surprise" which is a pre-set menu of tapas.
Firstly, we waited over 20 minutes for the drink order to be taken, then eventually the food arrived in dull, cold dumps. Not a single one of our tapas were Spanish (for example: a cold salmon wrap? Looked as tho it had come straight from a supermarket). The other 'dishes' were cheap, uninspiring, small and disappointing.
One of our group went on for a takeaway because she has not had sufficient.

We asked to sit outside but it's only for short periods...the squat stools were designed by the Marquis de Sade to punish those sitting down for more than 5 minutes.

The place has a lovely location and looks good but the service and food let's it down. As the host of a group visiting Amsterdam, when you have to apologise to your guests for your own choice of restaurant it's embarrassing and I won't be repeating it.

The odd thing is: the restaurant doesn't seem to get it. Slow service, poor food, uncomfortable seating, hacked-off customers. Not a good combo in the hospitality business.

Pay it a visit by all means but set your expectations low and realise that there's much better all over Amsterdam - in fact almost anywhere in Amsterdam. I've been cruising its restaurants for 5 years now and this one is very low on the list.

“Best Tapas in Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Just a 2 minute stroll from the ever busy Rembrabt Plein, this is a real find. Service was lovely – and that staff enjoy a proper flirt.

With only 20 or so different tapas on the menu everything was fresh. The calamari was spot on – and as for the stuffed dates, wrapped in smoky bacon, drizzled in Dutch syrup and sprinkled with sesame seeds.. a taste explosion!

“very nice tapas and ambience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Had several tapas at this place. They are rather large in size (which is great, since the price is not very cheap). The quality of the tapas was really good. The place provides a very nice atmosphere to relax. The service is not great (rather inexperienced waitress) but they are cheerful and happy. I will definitely come back.
