“Dutch warmth, character and charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

If you prefer the anonymity of slipping into a minimalist hotel room, then the Camilla and Guido experience is not for you.
We had read about Breitner House and looked forward to reaching a bed after a 32 hour journey from Australia. We finally arrived and were greeted by the elegant and charming Camilla offering Prosecco and nibbles in a beautiful dinning room overlooking the lush greenery of Oosterpark.
Our anxiety started melted away as we gradully slipped back in history to an elegant era of ateliers, of artists meeting to fuel each other's creative spirits and of parties with participants dancing the Charleston to be glimpsed from the street by onlookers peering up to windows lit by beautiful Italian chandeliers.
Guido and Camilla are reincarnations of these people. They are like a fairy story of the beautiful actress rejecting all suitors until falling in love with the gregarious and handsome film director, Guido.
If you are lucky enough to stay at Breitner House you will have the great fortune to experience their world of beautiful things and food. Allow them to introduce you to their Amsterdam. You will be uplifted by the experience. Love you Camilla and Guido. I hope our paths cross again in this world!

Room Tip: The upstairs blue suite overlooks the garden and park, the downstairs suite has garden access.

From the moment we arrived at the Breitner House, we were overwhelmed by the beauty and class of the hotel and the hospitality and kindness shown to is by Camilla and Guido, the owners. Our every need was attended to personally and they went far beyond the call of duty - recommending and reserving restaurants, giving us a tour of Amsterdam, taking us personally to the cruise ship terminal at the end of our stay and, giving my Fiancée a beautiful birthday present. During our whole stay, we felt as if we were staying with good friends - never like paying guests. The food was exceptionally prepared for our breakfast and the suite we stayed in was truly stunning.
I can't recommend Breitner house enough. We will certainly be returning there and look forward to spending more time with the friendly, kind owners.

We just returned from three nights at the Breitner House and only wish we had stayed longer. The reviews and photos are picture perfect, but there's nothing to prepare you for the breathtaking rooms, magnificent décor, and the most beautiful breakfasts we have ever had. The rooms are filled with artwork, books, beautiful flowers, luxurious draperies and were spacious even by American standards. Our beautiful room (The Breitner Suite) was well stocked with champagne and wine, coffee, teas, chocolate and biscuits, fresh fruit. The owners, Camilla and Guido, are gracious and warm and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, pampered and taken care of the entire time. It's clear they love what they do and want everyone who stays at the Breitner House to feel like royalty. The Breitner House is not a hotel or a B&B, it's truly an experience of a lifetime.

Booking our 40th anniversary trip in Amsterdam at the Breitner House was picture perfect. The luxurious surroundings, creature comforts and gourmet breakfasts were truly unparalleled. Camilla and Guido love what they do and they make every effort to ensure their guests experience their beloved Amsterdam fully. The pictures of the Breitner House on their website is a true representation. It is spectacular. Read the reviews and you will see that they extend their warmth and personal touch to everyone who is lucky enough be a guest in their home. And were we lucky!!! Guido drove us around and gave us the lay of the land, drives through the countryside and an unforgettable boat trip though the canals and surrounds of the city. Camilla made recommendations for dining, sight seeing and helped us arrange a special tour with a Jewish tour guide who truly brought to life the history and story of the city from the 1600's to the present time. Little did we expect our 40th anniversary would bring such magic to our lives. By the end of our stay we felt like family who had found a home.

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs in the Breitner Suite and did see the downstairs suite as well. Both were gorgeou...

Staying at the Breitner House was a fantastic experience. The lovely couple Camilla and Guido went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. They are masters of making guests feel welcome and pampered. Top service, all possible comfort and amenities, breakfasts of a lifetime, drop dead gorgeous interiors put together with artistic flare, and a quiet but central location, makes this the perfect place to stay when in Amsterdam. Only next time, we will visit the Breitner House, and take Amsterdam as a bonus. Marianne & Gian

Although we were expecting a " hotel" and were somewhat initially taken aback by this nondescript residence on a residential street, the charm and overflowing hospitality of the marvelous hosts Camilla and Guido quickly reversed our hesitations and made us feel "at home". The nondescript building we soon learned was really a historical cultural center for painters. The rooms are filled with art and "tons " of chotckes (maybe too much). Suite was large and very comfortable.
Cons- No AC and no screens. Bathroom, although redone and quite nice is on a different floor level (several steps), so if you are going there in middle night you need to be quite careful.Bathroom floor ,particularly shower floor, made with very slippery tile, and when feet are soapy, one needs to have ice skating skills to be able to navigate safely. Be careful. Very awkward that the entire front room has no usable window shades or curtains, nor do any windows open. This is obviously quite awkward at night, especially since this is where the TV is.The bedroom does have curtains against this front room's side so there is privacy there. Location requires a bus or taxi to get to anywhere touristy.

We took a romantic getaway for two nights to Amsterdam and while the city was amazing, what truly made our trip unforgettable and romantic and wonderful was the Breitner House experience. Camilla and Guido were impeccable hosts greeting us warmly, preparing an utterly pampered room (wine, fruits, tea/coffee, homemade sweets and local Dutch delights abound). The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! We stayed in the Israeli suite and had a wonderful garden to enjoy not to mention the big open room with separate lounge and amazing fireplace. A grand bathroom with lovely Clarins products. Now to the most special part, their brunches. You are royalty at this feast! Beautiful champagne, pastries, delicatessen, home made pancakes, pate, quail egg florentine, quiches, and so much more we felt truly spoiled. The ambiance is beautiful as well. Decor plush, vibrant and lively. Finally and most importantly, Camilla and Guido treated us like family and showed us everything we need to know about the city, where to dine and how to get around. It was beyond easy. All of their recommendations were dead on. It was truly a delight to spend time with them- so many interesting stories, their personalities glow. All in all, we will be back again and again!!!
As a side note, we were recommended to stay here by my mother who also stayed and left with so many wonderful impressions she quickly sent us there as well. We are grateful!
