Description: MOES is a bar and restaurant in the basement underneath De Appel arts center. Seasonal, local products are the basis of the international menu. Once a month, the menu is completely without fish or meat. MOES makes a modest contribution to reducing the distance from farm to fork by growing it's own herbs in the garden.2012 Architects from Rotterdam designed the interior with the same philosophy: what you can get from nearby, is good. Through a 'harvest map' building materials from the environment are found and re-used.Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday 17h00-23h00, Saturday 12h00-23h00, Sunday 12h00-18h00 and Monday closed. Groups of 10 or more people can contact us for business or private meetings outside opening hours

“Excellent menu, service, and innovation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I've been a patron of this lovely restaurant for months and this has multiple reasons: the wonderfully attentive staff, the incredibly fresh (and locally sourced) produce, and the inventive menu. This restaurant has it all: an innovative and up-to-the-minute menu leaves little to desire; there are always vegetarian options to choose from and and if you like meat, then you can rest assured that the meat is sourced from happy animals that have spent their days at local farms. MOES is becoming increasingly popular, so the sooner you get to this gem in the center of Amsterdam, the better. The prices are very reasonable and you'll get your authentic Dutch culinary experience with a twist - but without straining your conscious, nor your budget.

“A special place for lunch and diner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

Not the usual generic food you'll expect in touristy Amsterdam. But, beautiful organic dishes, both meat and vegetarian, with good Dutch ingredients. Exclusive atmosphere in the same building as De Appel art museum. Menu changes frequently based on seasonal products. Very nice wines and ciders.

“Delicious food with a very laid back atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

The food here was fabulous, once we managed to find it (just under the Appel arts centre). The whole atmosphere is very laid back; this is also the source of the only down side of the place because the service is also laid back and takes a while.
Definitely worth a visit just make sure you leave a nice long time to savour the food, chat and wine.

“great atmosphere, great food. A special place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Really friendly, helpful staff without being over attentive. Live piano music added to the atmosphere. Because it is a bit off the main tourist trail and because it's a bit hidden away it probably depends on reputation rather than passing trade.
We had "Dutch stew" - which isn't stew at all! It was described as a meatball wrapped in bacon - which is pretty accurate. Very tasty indeed. We went for the smaller sized portion which was fine for us (but we're not big eaters!). It came with some mashed potato and watercress (the waitress said it was parsley.... then told another customer it was parsnip ... anyway - very tasty!)
We also had a side order of seasonal vegetables - again fantastic flavours - carrots and fennel - beautifully cooked.
But THE BEST thing - the pudding - millefeuille - with white chocolate and blood orange and blood orange ice cream - not the millefeuille cake we get in the UK with multi layers of puff pastry - this was 2 circles of white chocolate, sandwiched with a white chocolate cream and segments of blood orange. Delicious. With blood orange sorbet - also excellent.
I regret not being able to try everything on this menu.
Highly recommend it.
And very reasonable prices too.

“Nice staff but should keep to the courses they usually serve!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Nice staff but the kitchen forgot us. The waitress also forgot to tell us that one of the courses on tonight's special menue "black and white" was black pudding... Had we known we would have chosen from the regular courses, but ended up forgotten and disappointed!
