The location is good. The street Zeedijk is a combination of China Town, gay pubs and it is just off the red light district. But Hofje van Wijs has a tiny little courtyard where you can find a little rest while keeping an eye on the Zeedijk. The service is too casual: there is no menu for drinks & prices and the waitress has no idea what the soup of the day is. We ordered salmon, spaghetti alla puttanesca and pasta of the day (with prawns). The presentation is very nice. The spaghetti alla puttanesca is a very, very simple dish. But the capers were missing and it was too tasteless. And it was too bad that I got overcooked tagliatelle instead of spaghetti al dente! My friends were content with their dishes but not enthusiastic. Luckily the prices are a bit lower than the crazy Amsterdam average. By the way, Hofje van Wijs is a shop for coffee and tea in the first place.
