“Good exhibits but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We went purely for the Vincent Van Gogh and the Impressionist exhibitions as the Van Gogh museum is closed and relocating here for a while. We queued for well over an hour and that was early morning. The Van Gogh exhibit was great, although expensive at €17.50 and very crowded. We felt a bit rushed as there was just too many people in such a small place.

“Nice to go, but not spectacular”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

The Hermitage in Amsterdam attracts lots of people, but is it worth it? Personally we found the building average, with the usual service of a museum. The rooms of the museum are good , but the temporaly exebithion of impressionist is not spectacular although it gives you a good overlook.
If you have a ducth museumcard you do not need to go to the cashier but can log in.

“Great collection of art but very crowded”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

I liked the pieces they had on display, but there were so many people and school tour groups that I was always darting in and out of people to get a glimpse of the paintings...

“Hermitage Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Wonderful building and exhibitions. But recommend buying tickets for Van Gogh and/or Impressionists BEFORE going to the museum. Tickets can be bought in advance via internet, or at the Tourist Office in front of Centraal (as I did). Otherwise the queues are just horrendous, and involve standing in all weathers for ages.

“outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

only found out about the hermitage in amsterdam , by accident , was in dam Sq , and saw the church in the corner was advertising a warhol exhibit , which i read as exhibition hehe , a copy of a print of da vinci's last supper .
i got talking to the lady on the info desk , and thats where i found out about the hermitage .
the hermitage in st petersburgh has the 2nd best 19th and early 20th centenary art collections after paris in the world , and boy were we lucky .
the van gogh museum is closed , so the displays are at the hermitage , and they have tied together van gogh's late work , with an impressionists exhibition from the hermitage .
just mind blowing not having been to paris ( i know shameful living only 300km away hehe ) this was by far and away the best impressionist work i have seen , both museums were a tour de force .
sitting here now at 536 am writing this review 5 days latter thinking about what i saw , is still mind blowing .
by the way the hermitage side includes an informative display of what was happening through the 19th century and how impressionism came about
and the van gogh side has far more than just his late stuff
