I left my heart in Amsterdam and if I were to retrieve it, it would be at Suite 259. This establishment is more than I had ever hoped for of a B&B. The African themed décor is gorgeous, every single item in the Grand Sahara suite that I stayed in kept to this — from the tie-dye bed covers, bespoke furniture, printed carpets to the small animal figurines around the room. A desktop computer in the room grants guests free access to the internet while the fridge provides you with refreshments, also complimentary. I really liked the fact that there was a quaint garden right outside the living room which is great to bask in during the summer and good for hot chocolate in the winter. It’s so cosy that it takes a bit of effort to leave the room!
Location is great, its just mere minutes from commercial Amsterdam and a one minute walk from the park (right behind the B&B). This gives you the serenity that one needs during a city holiday; staying at Suite 259 gives you the best of both worlds. The local market and a popular shopping strip with the locals is about 7 minutes walk, here you will see how the locals shop at competitive prices. Homeward from local store Hema, random clothes stores that stocks fashionable outfits and quirky shops where keepsakes are easily available.
Apart from all the above, the reason why I enjoyed Suite 259 was the amazing hospitality we received from the owner Aziz Abdat. Also a Singaporean like me, he shared nostalgic tales of Singapore and his journey to Amsterdam (he has been here over 35 years and also runs a bridal boutique). Chatting to him is like spending time with an old friend. He cooks great gastronomical feasts in his kitchen and presents them well in his safari styled kitchen. There was never a dull moment with him. He took the time to show my husband and I around the area, shared great travel tips and went the extra mile by printing us maps to help us get around.
My Amsterdam experience would not have been this glorious had it not been for Suite 259. Personalised service, great rooms and mouth watering food is a definite. I would definitely recommend this to anyone after a truly enjoyable holiday. Two thumbs up!
