I was looking for somewhere special to take my boyfriend for his birthday and when I came across the reviews here on TripAdvisor I knew this had to be the place! The Suite 259 experience is highly personal right from the start... from calling Peter to find out more (very friendly and helpful), to the exchange of emails before our stay, down to the details in our room when we arrived (his favourite flowers, a bottle of wine, a birthday cake)... this just isn't the kind of service you get in a hotel.

We stayed in Suite Safari, which is gloriously eccentric, with its safari theme carried throughout... down to the herd of grazing giraffes outside the window! This is much more than a hotel room, with a built in kitchen, bathroom, widescreen tv/dvd and high speed internet access. To be honest we didn't even need this because the room was nice enough to entertain ourselves in!

It's ideally situated to get into town on the tram or a moderate walk. Peter and Aziz are outgoing and helpful in a genuine way that makes it feel like you're staying with friends, and breakfast in the beautiful shop downstairs was a great way to start the day. The cats are fantastic and not like any other cats you've seen!

Even the bloke (notoriously grumpy!) was won over by the Suite 259 experience - and I'd say that's pretty much the strongest endorsement any establishment could hope for!

In all, it was a great place to stay and I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for something special.

I just spent three nights in the Grand Sahara suite at Suite 259. Wow...this place is phenomenal. You enter through a simple front door off the street, climb a stairway, walk through the door to the room, and suddenly you are presented with incredible African-themed decor and a jacuzzi for two people. The complimentary wine, soft drinks, juice, and fruit were very handy, as were the cool African bathrobes. The main floor of the suite is quite comfortable; we never even got around to requesting a DVD from Peter.

Speaking of Peter, he and Aziz run Suite 259, and they are both terrific. My girlfriend had some specific food allergies that Aziz asked about and noted before he prepared our breakfast each morning. In fact, my girlfriend's allergies to black pepper and grease resulted in some delicious breakfast foods for us both: scrambled eggs with prawns, beef meatballs with peas and carrots, and pancakes. All of it was excellent.

I have stayed at some ritzy places in many towns around the US and abroad. I can honestly say that Suite 259 was the best experience I've had anywhere, from the personal service and care that Peter and Aziz provide to the level of quality within the room to the location and convenience with regard to public transit in Amsterdam...my few nights there were unforgettable! I plan on staying in the same room every time I return to A'dam.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 days and loved every moment. Our hosts were top notch - caring and helpful - they helped us with booking trains, gave us tips on local restaurants and excursions out of the city. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious and the rooms were spacious, stocked with everything from beverages / coffee, a complimentary bottle of wine, internet access and just about anything else one needs to feel at home. Truly a wonderful experience - we will definitely stay here on our next trip to Amsterdam!

Peter and Aziz offer a very personal, friendly service at their unique and very stylish suite 259.
From the beautiful ground floor wedding dress shop setting to the themed bedroom suite with hand-embroidered bed-linen and matching 'table' covers over old well-travelled trunks, the decor is unusual, a little out-of-place and undeniably romantic, but that's why we went there, and that's what makes the experience so special.
Their approach is very informal, but the attention to detail is there, such as flowers, a bottle of wine and even a birthday cake for me. They always have time for you.
They go the extra mile to ensure you have a memorable stay, and this is genuine, not like the many anonymous hotel chains with their anonymous staff, trained smiles and heartless rooms.
We felt by the end that we'd stayed with friends. We even managed to persuade them to let their absolutely beautiful cats we'd heard about out of the private quarters and into the shop for a while. And if you have the time and interest ask them questions about the East, or Buddhas, or textiles, these two are a mine of information.
The only thing I'd like to see when I go back, which if I return to Amsterdam I definitely will, is Peter wearing a fez and some kind of fancy eastern house-coat.
