This is the most superior B&B/Hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. Here is a brief (believe it or not), list of what you can expect from a stay with Suite 259
The Room-
1. Gorgeous safari rooms: The room was expertly decorated with antiques, safari items, and an artist’s hand painted designs on the doors and walls. There is a realistic animal skin area rug, which I later found out was manmade. The room is a masterpiece of decorating talents and attention to fine details.
2. A gigantic vase of fresh flowers over a food tall, and with the bouquet of roses and other flowers about 2 feet high and a foot and a half wide.
3. My own key to the front door: I stayed out really late one evening, and was excited that I was able to do so without needing to awaken the inn owners to unlock a front door.
4. My very own computer: Suite 259 supplied me with my own desk top computer, which was tucked away in a gorgeous secretary desk. Downstairs is their printer, which they are happy to allow you to use as needed.
5. Serenity: There are only 2 suites here. So, breakfasts are intimate and nights quiet.
6. Jacuzzi bathtubs: Out bath was gorgeous, and had lovely water jets along the sides.
7. Heavenly Bed: Large, clean comfortable bed
8. Hi Def TV with DVDs
9. Lots of space: The room was HUGE. There was an area for the kitchen with a table and chairs, another for the desk, a huge armoire and more.
10. Neat and Clean: You could search this room with a magnifying glass and never find dirt or areas in need of repair or touch up. This room is 5 star luxury.
The Location
11. Park Access: Just behind our building is the famous Vondelpark. Beyond Vondelpark are the Van Gogh and Rijks Museums.
12. “Real” Amsterdam: Suite 259 is not located in the hustle and bustle of the tourist area. Instead, we stayed on a nice, clean, lovely street. The trees were gorgeous, and we could open our windows to smell the yummy fresh air. Herein lays my only contradiction: When someone in the building smokes a cigarette, I could smell it in the room from start to finish. That was a bit of a drag (pun intended).
The Hosts-
13. Attention-when I wanted it: In the morning our hosts were a burst of energy and my own personal fountains Amsterdam knowledge and suggestions. Otherwise, if I wanted them they would be there in a flash. If I wanted to “do my own thing”, they gracefully allowed me my space.
14. Laundry service: We arrived at Suite 259 after having visited 2 other countries, with dirty laundry in tow. Though I sincerely objected, Peter took our clothes to the Laundromat for us and picked them up when ready. The cost of the laundry was added to our bill, but his time and energy were not.
15. Cabs at my beck and call: We let Peter know when we wanted to travel, and our cab would await us.
16. Flexibility: If you need anything, and they are capable, they will accommodate you. I had a few specific requests which were granted without question. One being a very late check in time. Peter actually waited up for us!
17. Personal Touch: About 30 minutes before we left, I shared this with Aziz that one of the meals he had created for breakfast was now one of his new favorite foods. 20 minutes later, as we were taking our luggage to the front door, Aziz arrives, in his raincoat with a bag filled with Rawon packets. As our luggage was loaded, he quickly wrote the recipe for us. What he brought us lasted for months! We have looked in the US for this item to no avail. Be sure to get a stash when there, because it is fabulous.
18. Kid Friendly: The morning I was there with them, Aziz and Peter brought a child staying in the other suite a toy!
The Food
19. Michelin Star worthy breakfasts: Aziz is a phenomenal cook. I don’t mean phenomenal as in lovely, I mean phenomenal as in exquisite and unparalleled. If you want to try food beyond your wildest dreams, simply ask Aziz to cook whatever he likes. Some of the breakfasts were Asian delicacies from his childhood, others likely something he perfected on his own. He also offered fruits, cereals and more. My husband had to leave extra early for work, and Aziz seemed disappointed that we didn’t wake him up to make his breakfast!
20. Wine, Chocolates, Food and Soft Drinks-All complementary: There was a fully stocked fridge with various foods and numerous cans of soft drinks. Considering the price of soft drinks in Europe, this was pretty amazing. The first night we arrived, we guzzled a few drinks and dived into the dish of chocolates and feasted on cookies. The next day it was all restocked! We also had our own Senseo coffee maker with coffee pods!
This inn is extremely reasonably priced. With the amenities, service and more I could not imagine a place to rival this anywhere in the world.
