Stayed here for one evening.
The location is superb. It's centrally located; very close to Dam Square, Red Light District, and Central Station. It is surrounded by a multitude of touristy shops and restaurants.
The hotel people were nice, but a bit slow to check me in. When I came back in the evening, the night auditor was completely stoned, but of course, being Amsterdam, it didn't surprise me. He still was able to answer my questions (although I did have to repeat myself a few times). What's nice is that they give you a little wristband that gives you 20% discount off the Irish restaurant next door and a 10% discount off Waffles and Crepes (about a 20 second walk from the hostel).
This is where this place fell short. There is basically no lobby - just a tiny booth and one couch. The area is usually super cramped, because that's also the only area to leave your baggage. There's a door that leads directly to the Irish restaurant next door. You also have to get the WiFi password from a sign inside the restaurant, not in the hostel. By the way, the WiFi only works on the ground floor and barely on the first level up. Above that, you're out of luck. They have small lounges on each floor with a few cruddy-looking couches, and it smells kind of funny. I didn't want to sit on the couches - they had weird stains on them. The bathrooms are surprisingly huge and have stall-style showers/toilets, but weren't the cleanest.
The rooms weren't too bad sized. The sheets were clean, but the beds were very hard. There was no WiFi in my room - I was on the 2nd level up, and as I mentioned before, there's pretty much no signal above the first level up. However, there was one table and a few chairs where I could do some of my work and use my laptop on. There was an outlet beside each bed, which was very convenient. Also, there was a little storage chest below the beds to put your luggage, which I found convenient. I did have a nice view of the church behind the hostel from my room, and there was nice lighting in the morning.
This place is cheap, and with cheap prices often times comes with cheap quality, and this was definitely one of the cases. Great location, okay rooms, but crap facilities. I did appreciate the discounts from the Waffle/Irish places though. The Waffle place was great, the Irish place was only so-so.
