We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Frisco Inn.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, just on the edge of the red light district and only a 5 minute walk from Centraal Station.
Check-in is at the bar of the same name on the ground level, with the hotel rooms located on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors above the bar.
We stayed in a twin room, which was located on the 3rd floor.
The room was very clean, as was the private bathroom with shower. The room had a small cupboard suitable for hanging some clothes and storing some small bags. There is also a small safe in the cupboard for valuables and a small portable TV in the room.
The room was quite small, but excellent value for money (for Amsterdam) considering it had private bathroom & shower.
As is often the case in this style of hotel in Amsterdam there is no lift and the stairs (particularly up to 1st floor) may prove to be difficult for some people.
The bar is a nice place to sit for a couple of drinks or for grabbing some breakfast. And all the members of staff that we met were extremely friendly.
Having been to Amsterdam quite a few times before, and staying in some pretty dodgy hotels & hostels, it was a huge bonus to find somewhere like The Frisco Inn.
I would happily recommend the Frisco Inn to anyone looking for an relatively inexpensive room with en suite, in a great location.

My boyfriend and I paid 80 Euros for a one night stay at The Frisco. As far as I can tell that's about what you'll pay for a room in Amsterdam. I don't think it was any more expensive than other small hotels in the area....some of which are not as clean, and are way sketchy.

Our room was clean, small (by North American standards...but certainly big enough for the two of us) and simply (but nicely) decorated.

The lady at the bar downstairs (where you check in...) was SO friendly and helpful. Since it was a Monday and check-in was delayed by an hour while all the rooms were cleaned, we were allowed to leave our bags at the bar while we explored for a bit. This was such a welcome change from London the day before, where no one would let us leave our bags anywhere and we had to lug them evvvverywhere.

The location is great. A stone's throw from the train station...Dam square not far off, or the Red Light District. The Grasshopper is right there, one of the nicer coffee shops and my bf and I spent much of our visit there.

The stairs are indeed very steep, but, we were prepared for them. They're not a big deal...just be careful if you'll be stumbling back from the coffee shops, and maybe leave the wheelie suitcase at home :)

When we checked out Tuesday morning, we weren't due to catch our train out of Amsterdam until the evening and wanted to spend the day exploring the city. Once again, the friendly lady behind the bar let us leave our bags there all day. We were no longer guests, and it was very kind of her to extend that courtesy. I doubt many places would. That allowed us to spend the day in Amsterdam without having to lug our bags everywhere.

I can't say enough about The Frisco, our experience was great.

Hotel Frisco

3 lads in their 20s in the dam for the sole purpose of getting battered (and we did)

We arrived at the hotel a little before check in so dumped our bags in reception and told to come back any time after 1:30, which we did.
We checked in (in the bar) and were given a room key each (€5 deposit for each key) and told where the rooms were and how to use the key cards in the doors. To get to the rooms, use the door to the right of the door into the bar. We were then met by the dreaded steps of Amsterdam. With bags/suitcases this is an absolute ball ache, you really have never seen stairs so steep. After the first time you go up them it doesn’t seem so bad – I suppose you mentally prepare your self for the climb.

When we got to the room, it was better than I expected, although if you stay in a triple room, make sure your not the last up the stairs as you will get the mattress without a bed (not too much of a drama for us, the hotel was just somewhere to sleep for one night). The room its self was quite big, had a comfy sofa and coffee table – basic really but sound for the amount of time we spent in the room. The shower wasn’t the most powerful but it always had hot water when I used it. There seemed to be plenty of storage space for clothes etc. There is also a safe but we didn’t bother with it.
Smoking is permitted but it’s a €50 fine if you set the smoke alarms off so smoking out the window was our plan.

Check out was at 10:00 and breakfast isn’t provided.

All in all if going to the dam again for the same reason, this hotel is good due to location and closeness to coffee shops.
The main problem with the hotel itself is the stairs. Another small problem is how far away the closest tram stop is, for some reason there is no tram stop between Central Station and the Dam on the Rokin tram line so theres always going to be a bit of a walk getting to the hotel. Apart from these minor glitches everything was sound!

  • Liked — on the edge of the RLD and coffee shops
  • Disliked — stairs, no tram stop near

The Frisco is a very basic hotel, which is ok for stag/hen parties but I wouldn't reccommend it for anything else. The good points are the price and the location. The bad points are the many steep narrow steps, the tiny rooms and the unfriendly staff. Warning: The triple room is actually a double room with a mattress on the floor! The website definitely makes this place look better than it is, but it could have been worse.

I stayed at the Frisco Inn from Feb 29th-March 3rd. Check in was at the bar, and the people were very nice. They charge your card upon arrival, no big deal though. Reading reviews, I knew the location was great and for the price, you couldnt ask for more. The rooms were a little small, but very clean. Maid service daily. The workers at the Inn were very friendly and helpful. It was also a plus to have the bar downstairs. The hotel has 10 rooms total, and very narrow, steep stairs, just be careful walking down, I fell a couple of times. Overall the hotel was in a great location, clean, and a wonderful price. We walked all over Amsterdam, and I have never experienced a city like this before. It is great and we will be back.
