We loved this place. You check in at the bar. They were very very friendly and welcoming, and stored our luggage for free while our room was getting ready.

The food at the bar is GREAT, and very well priced.

It is very easy to walk to this hotel from the train station. Walk straight out of the station, make one left turn and you are there.

We were close to everything we wanted to see. Right next to the Red Light District, but not so close that we felt we were in a dangerous neighborhood. The noise level wasn't bad at all.

Our room had a skylight right above the bed, which was fantastic! It was a small room, but we were only there to sleep. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was tiny, of course, but the water pressure was fierce (in a good way.)
There is a free safe in the closet, which is very helpful. We had no problems whatsoever. I would absolutely stay here again.

If you are a person with a very large body, or difficulty walking up stairs, you might have trouble staying here, however. The bathroom IS small, and the staircase is grueling.

Stayed here for three nights with my girlfriend in August. Or was it September? :-) Lemme think...

Anyway, the location is awesome... fly into Amsterdam Schipol... walk to the train and get in... get out at Central Station... walk a couple of hundred metres and you're there! Check in in the bar and leave your luggage in the hotel next door and back out on the street to gallavant and explore.

The room itself was fine. Clean and functional. I read some other people's reviews who thought the place was grubby... dunno about that. I found it clean, if a little scuffed. But who cares? The bathroom was spotless. Some people seem to have had issues with the shower... did you maybe forget to pull the shower curtian shut? Just can't figure out what the problem could have been...

I would defenitely recommend this hotel and would go back the next time I'm in The Dam.

i dont think i would stay here again. We had no hot water for 24hrs during our 4 night stay. the rooms look nothing like the website .the room is the size of a shoebox(i have been to amsterdam 2 times so i know the standard room size) our room was dark all the time had to have the lights on even in daylight hours. our room backed onto the back of another hotel you could literally shake hands with someone in the hotel room behind us. the walls are paper thin you can hear people above you and beside you but in all honesty that didnt keep us awake ,neither did noise from the street or downstairs .it has the wet floor bathroom style set up with no division of the shower from bathroom.
The location is its best point. located on the edge of the red light district everything is within walking distance ,central station, dam square, anne frank, coffee shops, all a short walk.
the stairs up to your room are typical amsterdam stairs .steep (almost vertical) twisting with narrow floor boards it is quiet challenging getting suitacases up and down but thats amsterdam.
the breakfast downstairs was quiet good and not to pricey.the thing i found strange was that you pay in full on arrival. i felt a bit worried as soon as they requested that !!!
i would say to shop around a bit more, for the price i though it would of been a lot better than it was and im not a hard marker . just a realistic, honest one

This hotel is ok value for the money - a bit pricey. I looked at many others and they are also not so cheap though. The room we got (standard double) was much smaller than expected and not as plush as the photos shownonetheless it was adequate for a short stay for couples and was of a reasonably clean standard. There were some marks on the sheets and pillow cases thoguh!! The bed was very comfy but the room too light. There was a skylight above the bed so the sun was shining directly in the morning. View from window was ugly (back of hotel) and was directly into someone elses room (only 4-5 metres away!!)
The bathroom was clean, and the shower very spacious. Towels changed once during our 5 night stay. Haidryer available on request. The room had a cupboard and safe. The noise from neighbours was extremely loud you could hear without trying conversations and tvs!! Other guests insisted on slamming doors all night!! Bring GOOD ear protectors!! However we heard no noise from the bar downstairs (we were on 3rd floor) but then we were often out late into the night anyway. The staff were ok not exceptionally friendly or anything.
There is no elevator and the stairs are almost vertical!!! Hazardous when carrying heavy luggage down them or arriving home drunk!!!
Breakfast is served in the bar downstairs and is actually ok for the price and to get you started for the day. I believe they serve until midday or later. The location is bang in the centre 5 mins from Central station and 5 mins from the Red light district, however the street outside noise is very minimal surprisingly!!
We would possibly stay again if a different and cheaper room and we were slightly desperate for a place to stay!!

  • Liked — Location!! Allowed to smoke in rooms
  • Disliked — unclean bed linen, ugly view, thin walls
